The animals from Wildcall Wildlife Shows🦇 are busy organising their permission slips to visit Plant Empire next week as part of the wildlife incursion for our winter kids art class with Jane du Rand. The kids doing this 4-day holiday class will get to learn about the animals up close before immortalising them as drawings and ceramic mosaic artworks. 🎪 Not my circus, not my monkeys… 🙈🙈🙉

Plant Empire invites entries to join our next open group art exhibition with the theme of “Not My Monkey” from 25 July to 16 August 2026.

“Not my monkey” is a popular idiom that is shorthand for the expression “not my circus, not my monkeys” (from the Polish proverb “Nie mój cyrk, nie moje małpy”), meaning something that is not my responsibility, concern or fault.

Artworks in this exhibition can be any size or medium and engage with subject matters including (but in no way limited to): circus, performance, monkeys, animal protection, and popular culture.

We’re accepting entries on a continual basis for this exhibition, with final entries due 5 July. See our website for more entry details (link in bio).

Thank you so much for everyone who showed up for today’s market. From the stallholders who worked furiously in the lead-up until they resembled animal from the muppets, to our wonderful visitors who showed up with so many smiles and so much support, and even that fluffy white dog that mysteriously took up residence on our counter for a time, we felt all your energy and it felt great. Thank you to my team for their work to support the market: Tenny, Shelley, Mim and Deb - it is so appreciated! Thank you also to monaverdour and her band for your music - you always make a great day even better. I want to add another thank you to my new neighbours for their support of the market, including use of carparks (and with apologies for unauthorised parking!).

Julia’s ambitious ceramic sculpture, The Bearer, captured many hearts and minds during the exhibition - thank you to everyone who visited and voted.
