He Said No 🇧🇷✨

He said no, and in doing so, he showed the world the very best of Brazil.

When Oscar Schmidt turned down the NBA to keep representing his country, it wasn’t just a career decision, it was a statement of values.

In a world driven by visibility and commercial success, he chose identity, loyalty, and purpose.

He chose Brazil. 🇧🇷

And what a legacy he built:

🏀 The highest scorer in the history of basketball, with over 49,000 career points
🥇 The all-time leading scorer in Olympic basketball history
🌍 The top scorer in FIBA World Cup history
🏆 A member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
🇧🇷 Represented Brazil in five Olympic Games
🔥 Known worldwide as Mão Santa — for a shot that seemed almost unstoppable

And through that choice, he became more than one of the greatest players the game has ever seen, he became a symbol of conviction. Of playing not just for yourself, but for something bigger.

Today, we don’t just remember the points, the records, or the legendary Mão Santa 🏀

We remember what he stood for.

A reminder that sometimes, the most powerful legacy is built not on what you accept, but on what you refuse.

Rest in peace. 🕊️

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who help bring Brazil Week to life each year.

Brazilian and Australian women — and women from many other countries — working side by side, sharing ideas, culture and leadership, and building bridges that strengthen the relationship between our communities.

Brazil Week exists because of this spirit of collaboration, generosity and friendship. The women in our community play a vital role in creating spaces where connections grow, partnerships begin and cultures meet.

To the women of our Brazil Week community — in Australia, Brazil and around the world — thank you for your leadership, your energy and the heart you bring to everything we do.

Today we celebrate you. ✨

Brazil Week turns FIVE: A Shared Journey Across Oceans.

As we step into a new year, I’m sharing this message from Bahia, Brazil — where, just like in Australia, it’s summertime. ☀️🌊

It’s a beautiful reminder of how much we share: our love for the ocean, our beach culture, and the way community gathers around it.

2025 was a year of connection, collaboration and meaningful moments that strengthened the Australia–Brazil relationship. I’m deeply grateful to our partners, sponsors, artists, leaders and friends who made it all possible.

This year is especially meaningful. In 2026, Brazil Week celebrates five years of bringing people, cultures and opportunities together across borders.

Five years of stories.
Five years of friendships.
Five years of building something bigger than any one event.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you.
✨ Happy New Year from Brazil Week. 🇧🇷🇦🇺

✨🇦🇺🇧🇷 A heartfelt thank you to Queensland Premier David Crisafulli for his incredible support of the Australia Brazil Chamber of Commerce and Brazil Week 2025.

This special message from the Premier was played during our Gala Dinner at Parliament House on 17 September, a memorable night celebrating the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Australia, and the growing partnerships between our nations.

We sincerely thank Premier Crisafulli and Trade and Investment Queensland for their ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and supporting initiatives that bring our two countries closer together.

🤝 Together, we are building bridges for trade, culture, and innovation.

At Brazil Week in Brisbane, Val welcomed Theresa, the Honorary Consul for Poland, to share her impressions of the event. Theresa spoke about the incredible opportunities Brazil offers not only to Queensland and Australia but also to Poland. She highlighted the scale of Brazil’s potential, the country’s innovation, and the inspiring energy and positivity of its people values she believes Poland and Brazil share and can build upon together.

The conversation also reflected the strong bonds within Queensland’s diplomatic community, showcasing how collaboration and friendship open doors to new opportunities.
