Everyone tells you the reception flies by.
But honestly? So does the ceremony, and it’s the only part of the day where it’s just you two, making a promise that actually means something, in front of every person you love.
No phones in your hands. No hosting duties. No to-do list. No next thing to sort out.
Just that moment.
If I could give every couple one piece of advice it’d be this: look at all your favourite humans there for you, smile, breathe woohoo you’re getting married!
You’ve been planning this day for months. Give yourself permission to actually feel it.

A little trip down memory lane. Just over two years ago, on their family farm, Holly and Lach kept the biggest secret! Legal I do’s done quietly, confetti flying, and Holly wearing a dress that carried a piece of her mum’s. Their guests thought they were rocking up to an engagement party. Surprise !! you’re at a wedding. I absolutely love when couples pull this off. This one was one of my favourites.

Look at that bouquet fully airborne, no hesitation. One bouquet, four supercool women, zero chill and that’s exactly how it should be. Your ride or dies. The ones who enhance your day just by being in it.
Your I do team should be the people who actually want to be there, not the ones you felt you had to ask.
You want your day to be magical then start with the friends who bring the magic.

Festoon lights strung between timber posts. Fireworks just for them overhead. A couple so caught up in each other they barely noticed either.
Jess and Andy reminded all of us at their wedding reception that the first-love feeling doesn’t have to fade, sometimes it just gets louder.
Moments like this are why I love what I do.

Rewinding to where it all began Marli and Clint’s wedding. My very first as a celebrant. A beautiful legals-only ceremony by the river, ancient gums, green water, and one very enthusiastic and extremely terrified celebrant giving two thumbs up like she’d just survived something.
She had.
Not much has changed,I still get so many butterflies before every single wedding. I still want everything to be absolutely perfect for my couples. That part I hope never goes away.
What HAS changed? The dress situation.
I used to be strictly a Mister Zimi girl. Every single ceremony. No exceptions. I also naively told myself I would never outfit repeat.
Then I got busy. Really busy.
Now I find something I love, make sure it works with the couple’s palette, and wear it approximately one thousand times with zero shame.
And the short dress thing? I learned that lesson about five weddings in. A microphone + a script + a gust of wind = full spanx reveal to an unsuspecting crowd of wedding guests. Mortifying and never again.
Here’s to Marli and Clint, who trusted me right at the very beginning with absolutely no experience. I’ll never forget it.
