COVID has changed how I look on life. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, but wedding ceremonies are now few & far. But the n truth we must thank our lucky stars that we can still marry & carry on here in Sydney, Australia. Stay safe, Robert Dearlove

Hi, I recently returned from two months in Malaysia where I was intrigued to learn how Malay culture views the role of the fingers on our hands, especially since our wedding ring ceremony forms such an integral part of the ceremonies I perform.
The Malay’s say that each finger has a personality. The thumb is the mother finger, the index finger is important since it points the way. The third finger is considered the ghost finger, because it is the longest. The fourth finger, our ring finger, is referred to by some as the nameless one. The little finger is the clever one.
For my part there is a lot of western folklore surrounding the ring finger, so old Malay customs just add another layer to the ring ceremony, in my opinion.
Cheers, Robert

In my capacity as a Marriage Celebrant I conducted a ceremony on Sunday for two Korean Australian citizens, with guests wearing traditional Korean dress. It was such an honour to see these young people embrace our culture & still blend the beauty of theirs.

I just have to say how fulfilling it was to attend a child’s second birthday party and meet a baby from another couple I also married. It really is the best feeling, and I feel privileged to witness these moments.

I spoke with a young man yesterday planning his wedding and he nailed it, happy wife, happy life. We older blokes can learn a thing or two.

I have to say, it is so satisfying as a Marriage Celebrant that I can marry any couple regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. Australia has come of age.

I did enjoy being the Celebrant at a wedding with a full pipe band in attendance and a beautiful bride to be.
