Mockingbird Theatrics latest production, The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe opens here at Belco Arts tonight!

The Wolves follows nine teenage girls as they warm up for their indoor soccer games. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigour of a pack of adolescent warriors. As the teammates warm up in sync, a symphony of overlapping dialogue spills out their concerns. By seasonโ€™s and playโ€™s end, admidst the wins and losses, rivalries and tragedies, they are tested and ready โ€“ they are The Wolves.

โ€œThe scary, exhilarating brightness of raw adolescence emanates from every scene of this uncannily assured playโ€ โ€“ The New York Times

โ€œThe Wolves is a delightful meditation on society, s*x, and soccerโ€ฆDelappeโ€™s dialogue is hilarious and idiosyncratic, moving swiftly from gross-out humour to painโ€ฆa smart, sympathetic, female workโ€ โ€“ Village Voice

Have you been just waiting your whole life to express your q***rness through the medium of a PowerPoint presentation? NOW'S YOUR CHANCE.

Celebrating the creativity and deep obsession of q***r folks globally, Q***r PowerPoint defies categorisation and has been embraced by a wide array of venues, including biennales, Taiwanese nightclubs, museums, the Sydney Opera House, a park in Darwin, festivals, libraries, and even a q***r funeral home in Hurstville.

This is not just a series of presentations, itโ€™s a mode of disseminating culture, and of bringing people together.

Be a part of a night of niche obsessions, burning passions, and deeply camp storytelling, with , who are staging a three-night takeover this month across the ACT region, at Belco Arts, Tuggeranong Arts Centre, and The Q, Queanbeyan.

๐Ÿ’€ENTRIES FOR SUBCULTURES CLOSE 27 OCT ๐Ÿ’€

Submit your work in any visual medium for our open exhibition celebrating the vibrant and often misunderstood world of subcultures, bringing to light the rich tapestry of alternative identities, communities, and expressions that flourish outside mainstream society. โ
โ
Through a mix of mediums including painting, photography, illustration, and collage, subcultures aims to reflect on how fashion, music, political ideals, and shared lifestyles converge to create powerful subcultural identities. We encourage creators to capture the unique aesthetic markers of these groups but also their stories of solidarity, marginalization, and rebellion. โ

Curated by Red Saunders

Enter your artwork by midnight Monday 27 October to be a part of the exhibition: https://www.belcoarts.com.au/subcultures/โ

Share the Journey

Belconnen Arts Centre is a place to celebrate, undertake creative journeys, share stories and make memories. Opening in September 2009, it has swiftly established itself as an essential and driven community arts organisation.

On 15 May 2017, the ACT Government committed to the construction of Stage Two of Belconnen Arts Centre, which will include a 400 seat auditorium, a new foyer, workshops and studios, improved galleries, a cafรฉ and expanded catering facilities, as well as more space for creative residencies. It is anticipated that Stage Two will be completed by the end of 2019.

The core philosophy of Belconnen Arts Centre is to fuel a love of and engagement with the arts, and connect with the diverse residents of Canberra through a dynamic program across a range of arts practice, including dance, music, visual arts, theatre and more. Placing inclusion and community arts and cultural development front and centre, Belconnen Arts Centre develops, shares and celebrates creativity.

Welcome to the centre of arts and cultural activity in the Belconnen region!
