IMPORT PERMITS GRANTED FOR MUSHROOM COFFINS

An Australian company will soon import coffins grown from mycelium, the underground root network of mushrooms. They're essentially a ‘living cocoon’.

The Dutch makers, Loop Biotech, have teamed up with Arrow Bronze Pty Ltd to distribute them here. (Arrow Bronze has been in the cemetery and memorial space for 80 years, making plaques, urns, and accessories.)

Arrow Bronze has been jumping through customs hoops for months, but just yesterday they finally scored the import permits for Australia. They’ve also got import permits for New Zealand.

Here’s the lowdown:

🍄 They will be imported from the Netherlands, not grown here.
🍄 The adult ‘Living Cocoon’ comes in one size and is tested to hold up to 200 kilograms.
🍄 For children, there are three size options, including an infant model.
🍄 They’re soft and velvety to the touch.
🍄 They also repel water, so rain on a funeral day won’t be an issue, nor will moisture compromise the coffin’s structure.
🍄 Once buried in soil, the coffins and urns self-compost. They degrade in 45 days.
🍄 10,000 have been used around the world
🍄 20% of those have been cremated
🍄 They are said to behave like a standard coffin in the cremator.

It's great that there will be another choice for families.

There's more info about these mycelium and hemp-grown coffins in my blog in the comments.

Caution.. long read, but worth it I think.. 🩷 Three years ago today, I stood in a kitchen in Wallarewang and did my first ever wedding as a Marriage Celebrant. I was sooo nervous, excited, wondering whether I was going to be good enough, and luckily it was a casual relaxed wedding and I felt so good after it. Fast forward exactly 3 years and last night I was completely shocked, humbled to receive the Wedding Industry Awards Australia award #1 winner in Central West in the Celebrant category (if you didn’t already notice🤭).
The timing feels almost poetically perfect. 🩷Looking back over the last 3 years I’ve learnt that building a business isn’t just about the work you do. It’s also about the people who are in the background, the quiet supporters, often in ways i never would have expected. To those who have referred me, shared my posts, recommended my name, listened to my ideas, celebrated the wins, been there after disappointments, and believed in me long before i even really believed in myself… thank you. 🙏 And to those whose support came from places I least expected, your kindness has meant more than you’ll ever know. You know who you are, and i will never take your support for granted. And yes, when i first said i had become a marriage celebrant, there were people who laughed. Some wondered whether my own life experiences made me the right person for the role. What I have learnt is that life has a funny way of proving that our experiences don’t disqualify us…they often become the very reason we can really connect with others. Every ceremony i have had the privilege privilege of writing has reminded me that love isn’t about perfection. It’s about choosing each other throughout the different stages of life, over and over, showing up for each other, laughing together, weathering life’s storms, forgiving , and celebrating the journey. To every couple who has trusted me with your story… thank you. This award belongs to you just as much as it does me. Here’s to 3 years of laughter, happy tears, incredible love stories, and many more to come. 🩷🥂

I’m still trying to find the words…☺️
Tonight I was absolutely blown away to be named First Place Marriage Celebrant – Central West NSW at the Wedding Industry Awards Australia

To say I’m in total shock would be an understatement. I truly never expected it, and I’m feeling incredibly grateful.

The biggest thank you goes to every one of my couples who took the time to vote for me. Knowing that you trusted me to stand beside you on one of the most important days of your lives was already an honour. Then to have you vote for me afterwards… that means more than I can put into words.

Every ceremony I write is created with one goal in mind, to tell your story in a way that feels genuine, personal and completely you. To know that this has resonated with so many of you is incredibly humbling.

Thank you for inviting me into your lives, for trusting me with your love stories, for your kind words, your hugs, your laughter, and now for this amazing recognition.

I’m so grateful to do what I love, and I can’t wait to help many more couples celebrate the start of their next chapter.

From the bottom of my heart… thank you.🩷🥂
