Yesterday, locally severe thunderstorms developed across parts of eastern New South Wales, mainly about the Central Tablelands. Locally intense falls were recorded around Oberon, with 36 mm seen in a 30-minute period.

These mammatus clouds, typically associated with severe thunderstorms, were snapped over the Illawarra. Mammatus generally indicate turbulence aloft.

These clouds are notable for their distinctive rounded pouches that protrude from the base of the cloud - usually a storm or rain cloud.
