Long before a winner’s name is called, the work has already begun.

An alarm before sunrise. Feed buckets filled. A horse checked over with care. Another morning in the saddle, another lesson learned, another day spent chasing a little more from yourself.

To reach the top in racing takes talent. It also takes patience, sacrifice and the determination to keep turning up when the results haven’t yet caught up with the effort.

At the 2026 TRNT Red Centre Racing Awards, we came together to recognise that journey.

There is something special about seeing our racing community dressed up, standing beside their families and teammates, with a trophy in their hands. The smiles carry so much: pride, relief, gratitude and the knowledge of just how much work it took to get there.

Saturday racing at Ladbrokes Pioneer Park delivered

Two trainer doubles, a riding double and a close finish to round out the afternoon!

Kerry Petrick set the tone early, taking the opening two races with Hellivit under Lek Maloney and Black Zous with Billy Cray aboard. Black Zous supplied one of the day’s standout results, winning by 4.15 lengths at $9 and leaving favourite Limited Risk in second.

Kym Healy also celebrated a double, with Vatican Rose breaking her maiden by an impressive 4.4 lengths under Ianish Luximon before Mr Jones claimed Race 5 with Paul Denton aboard.

That win completed back-to-back victories for Denton, who had partnered Greg Connor’s Bonny Impact to success in Race 4.

And the finale kept things interesting. Jessica Booth and Grinzinger Lass added another win for Ray Viney, taking the last by just a quarter of a length over Matron Samsing.

Another Sunday at Ladbrokes Pioneer Park done right
If there was a theme to the afternoon, it was jockeys having their day. Lek Maloney came out firing, landing back-to-back wins in Races 1 and 2 aboard Tellez and Millionaire Lover — both for trainer Kerry Petrick — to set the tone early. Jessica Booth answered in kind, riding Golden Tunes to a dominant win in Race 3 before coming back to claim Race 5 on Grinzinger Lass for Ray Viney. Two doubles from two riders.

The card also had its moment of drama in Race 4, where Billy Cray produced a polished ride on $10 chance Okesutora to hold off the hot favourite and take the Young Guns in the Marquee Handicap — a reminder that the track has a way of keeping things interesting.

Days like this are what it's all about.
