A popular wedding couple question over my last few ceremony planning meetings: How they should play music during their ceremony if they’re not having a live musician or band.

One simple option is to create a Spotify/Napster/Limewire playlist and play it through your celebrant’s PA system. Most celebrants, myself included, are more than happy to help make this work.

The biggest tip I can give is to assign someone the role of “Ceremony Music Person Number 1” well before the wedding day. While it sounds simple, it’s difficult to perform a ceremony and manage the music at the same time, so having a trusted friend or family member responsible for pressing play is always a good idea.

The most common music moments are your pre ceremony playlist as guests arrive, the processional, signing of the marriage documents, the recessional, and post ceremony music while photos are taking place.

A little planning goes a long way, so get those playlists perfected for your upcoming 2026 Adelaide wedding! 🎵

Talking Star Wars, horror movies, Geelong and Carlton footy, their “origin” story, and everything in between - this is what I love about being a marriage celebrant.

Getting to know couples doesn’t come from an online questionnaire but from sitting down for a couple of drinks and nibbles and having a chat!

So great to catch up with and .brook__ tonight at overlooking the amazing , to not only build a plan for their wedding ceremony and reception plans for 2027 but also hear their story of how they became a couple and what makes them tick! Not only is it great conversation, it helps build a wedding day ceremony script, while telling the story they want to tell on their wedding day.

Thank you, Amy and Jordan for an awesome night!

A favourite part of a wedding ceremony? A few minutes straight after the ceremony.

The nerves are gone, everyone is smiling, families are hugging, rose pedals are being chucked high in the air (or on the couples hair) and the couple can finally take a breath and enjoy the moment they’ve spent months planning towards.

It’s also what I love about this work - getting to know couples, leading up to the wedding day. Every couple is different, but you can always tell when a day has been planned with a lot of love and genuine care for the people around them.

Also yes, occasionally there may be some celebrant finger guns after the ceremony too apparently 😂.

Thanks for the fun photo!

Some wedding days just feel easy.

Kell and Darren’s was exactly that. Heaps of laughs, great people, and two people who are just genuinely happy together.

It was great getting to know them in the lead up to the wedding. There was a lot of planning that went into the day, and yes it was detailed, but always for the right reasons. They just wanted to create a day that felt right for them and made everyone feel welcome and part of it.

You can tell straight away they’re madly in love, but also just really enjoy each other’s company. It’s a fun, solid relationship that works, and that came through in every part of the day.

Kell and Darren, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day and all the best for what’s ahead!

“Reed, we just want to have a very quick wedding, with just a few family members. What are our options?”

Couples sometimes ask about keeping things simple and just doing the legal side of getting married.

In Australia, there are a few legal requirements that need to be carried out for a marriage to be official: the reading of the monitum and legal vows, signing of the legal documents, and having two approved witnesses present.

A “legals only” ceremony covers all of that in a short and straightforward way, without the full ceremony structure.

For some couples, this is exactly what they’re after- just the two of them (plus witnesses), keeping things relaxed and focused on making it official.

From there, you can celebrate however you like, whether that’s a separate ceremony later, a party with family and friends, or something more low key.

It’s a flexible option that suits couples who want to do things their own way.
