The final submission is by Temptations by Jen.

Such a beautiful cake with so many gorgeous flowers. The richness in the photos are gorgeous and the location is the perfect backdrop for this materpiece. Well done!

This year’s colour palette provided such fabulous inspiration, especially when combined with texture. Working with Enhitched Wedding Design, we incorporated textile elements into the photoshoot, while keeping a clean, masculine theme with the hard, etched lines from the machinery providing a contrast to the softer feminine look of the cake.

A very big thank you goes to the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill Museum at Lobethal for allowing us to shoot the cake in such a fabulous location, full of heritage textile machinery and rich colours.

There were many people who I often thought of when creating this cake who have been touched by cancer, both within my family and friends – Michelle, Pat, Kevin, Paul, Lizzy, Austin, Klaus and Tim are just a few. I myself have had a near encounter but was lucky enough to receive early intervention which prevented the cells progressing to cancer.

This gorgeous submission from Lisa of Sweet Disposition Cakes is so warm it makes me want to jump right into the images. I am in love with the flower on the main cake!

The colours and warmth of Lisa's shoot and signature hand painted cake is outstanding.. adore your work Lisa..

Our final contribution to Australia's Sweetest Morning Tea is up next......

I wanted to use a strong and masculine colour pallette for my contribution to Australia's Sweetest Morning Tea, while still keeping feminine elements without being ‘flowery’. I used darker materials for the background teamed with green antique glass on the table and most of the other elements were left neutral. The colours remind me of winter, bringing in the bronze and dark browns to add warmth and texture.

I featured pear cakes as bronze sculptures, pears have such a feminine shape while the bronze adds a strength to them. The sweets I baked for the table are family and childhood favourites, real comfort food, I have always loved baking these treats.

I am dedicating my contribution to all my family and relatives who have been touched by cancer, those who have lost their battle, the ones who have lost those who are near and dear to them and especially those who continue to fight this horrible disease.

To donate to the Australia's Biggest Morning Tea fund please follow this link
http://sa.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/ASMT2014 A magazine will be available online and also to purchase in hard copy where you can keep it forever and indulge whenever you choose.

Love this geometric cake by Leini of Sweet Desires. I love that old gate and the topper on the cake is so perfect. Beautiful!

T

I drew inspiration from the elements many men work with in the country on a daily basis, but wanted to create something different to the on trend rustic styling. There are so many 'pretty' cake designs floating around, I wanted to push myself design wise to come up with something totally out of the box from what I've created in the past. I adore geometric patterns and chose this one to bring depth to my cake and love how the topper appears to float. Less really is more.

I chose black/grey/white/bronze for my colour palatte as I wanted to create something strong, bold and masculine while using the bronze to give the cake a lift stopping it from being so harsh.

Given that my cake design was quite sleek and masculine, I wanted to extend that through my photo shoot. I worked with the natural elements of wood and concrete to contrast and complement the metallic finish and the geometric lines of the cake.

Working with my photographer for the shoot, I wanted to bring in the gorgeous texture of timber through this old gate. I love how it fits perfectly with a masculine cake, yet softens the harsh lines and pays homage to the country – the land is the lifeblood of where we live in rural Australia.

Such a clever submission from Hanging Pretty and BakedCakesandCupcakery.

The ladies wanted to create contrast and that they did. I am in love with the colour palette they picked and the backdrop. Plus all those triangles, I can only imagine the hours that went into the hundreds of triangles. Well done ladies xx

This year Helen from BakedCakesandCupcakery and Shell from Hanging Pretty teamed up to create a shoot with a desire to create contrast.

Contrast in design, colour palette and styling to what they had created before.

Challenging themselves to push the envelope a little harder to meet this year’s brief, Helen and Shell combined their talents, for concept, styling and colour palette working together to capture a sense of masculinity within a modern piece of art work.

The images were taken by Studio 4 Photography Australia, a few of the photographer’s had previously worked in architecture before photography became their love. This allowed them to bring a respect for the design, details and angles within, capturing it in a way an architectural piece would be.

The overall design of the table was create to naturally blow out and create an optical illusion of floating desserts, with the hope that the viewer may question the reality in front of them.

Crumbs of Comfort Cake Design created the following submission, lines of architecture!

I love this concept, it's all about the lines and what better prop then an architects tools of the trade. It all fits in so well with this years brief and is very different.

Love everything about this shoot!! xx

I was inspired by modern Australian architecture, in particular, Kurilpa Bridge. It is the world’s largest hybrid tensegrity bridge and connects Kuripla Point on Brisbane’s South Bank to the heart of Brisbane’s business district.
Kurilpa Point, known as the “place of the water rat”, was named by the Turrbal people who first inhabited the area. It was considered in Brisbane’s history, to be a meeting place for indigenous tribes and a crossing point before the Brisbane River was bridged.

The colour palette chosen depicts the white, steel and concrete structure of the bridge against the steely blue backdrop of the city structures. The edible copperleaf represents the Brisbane River. At certain times of the day the sunlight reflects off the river giving of beautiful shimmery copper hue.

It appealed to me particularly in relation to the cancer journey. Although the Bridge has a look of fragility, its design is based on the principle of tensegrity (depicted in the cookie), making the structure incredibly strong.

Courage and strength is needed during the cancer journey. The strength shown by my late Aunt Filippa as she battled terminal cancer for 5 years was simply incredible. Despite her fragile state, she remained strong. She lost her battle at 50 years old.

Blissfully Sweet you sure know how to work that sugar!

Jacki is one of Australia's most talented cake artists and you can see why. Her cakes are pure art. I am always left speechless after looking at her creations and her shoot for Australia's Sweetest Morning Tea is the pinnacle!

Art comes in many forms and through its own derivative is a creation of one’s imagination.

Art and the creative side of sugar was where the design inspiration took me in my concept. I wanted to show a 3D nature to sugar without using modern science, but with traditional fondant work. Sugar comes in many mediums and by using a few different techniques and bringing them together in simple and modern ways, cake turned into modern and interpretative art.

To set the tone for this concept, a white gallery space was needed. The cakes became the sculptural gallery pieces and they were allowed to shine in a pared back environment. By turning cake into art, I wanted to confuse the eye and question the mind to what it is actually seeing.

The colour palette of shades of blue paired with crisp white allowed details to shine. The colours highlighted the depth of dimension given to every cake structure. Colour was added with piping, through gradients of fondant, via subtle hues of airbrushing and also through the delicate and fragile use of gelatin.

Cakes were designed using different structures and using different textures. Fondant was layered and shaped and tessellated together. It was also textured to look like concrete and ruffled in ways to look as if it floated on air. Royal icing provided dimension and depth and pops of colour and gelatin was formed into spheres and made into lace.

To fully bring cake art to gallery life, acrylic cake structures were custom made to fully accentuate the modern cake forms.

Clean, crisp and detailed imagery brought every vignette of this cake display into the world of gallery exhibition.

Welcome to a sweet exhibition … Cake is Art. Art is Cake.

With many friends and family that are currently fighting, or have fought the battle with Cancer (with and without success), supporting this e-vent was really important to me, and being selected to be part of it is an enourmous honour. To be able to use what I love doing to raise money to help all forms of cancer by supporting the Cancer Council has been an absolute joy, and I urge everyone to donate to the cause to continue to fight the battle.

From the time I was very young I spent a lot of time at my grandparents house, particularly with my Nan, and one of my favourite memories is watching old black and white movies with her on 'The Midday Movie'. I was always enamoured by how glamourous the actors were, even with the most simple lines in their costumes, and the sets were always stunning, again with a simplicity and sophistication that was the era. So in a tribute to my Nan, I chose to bring an interpretation of my memories of that era to life, and show how much of an impact it had on me, and installed a love of all things from that period that carries on through my life.

So, thank you Nan, for my love of black and white movies and musicals, of classic style, and for having me by your side in the kitchen and giving my love of baking that has become my passion.

A huge thank you to everyone that helped

AUSTRALIA’S SWEETEST MORNING TEA 2014

Mother Nature meets modern style and fashion. This piece, I created was inspired by the quote given “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” which was once said by Leonardo Da Vinci. I was inspired by it and knew there was nothing simpler than nature itself. The theme involved keeping the cakes as the centerpiece where all the surroundings are kept simple yet stylish and modern. The cakes were based on three different elements one being modern fashion, created with dark pleats and lines, with a splash of gold sequins and bows to create a bold simple statement. Modern buildings portrayed through square shaped cakes. Lastly, nature is depicted by a wreath of leaves where flowers are blooming along side a wooden painted canvas. The wreath represented the reasoning behind the event, circle of hope that flowers still bloom through the dark days.

The choice of colours consist mainly of masculine, dark shades such as black, brown, grey and navy. These colours create the contemporary ambiance which in hand complements the rusty, modern, sleek look that I desired. In particular, black was used to emphasize on making bold statements, the colour black is strong and infinite yet simple. The use of gold is to represent a hint of luxury and sophistication to contrast with the use of black being the absence of all colours.

When I knew my lovely friend Amanda from Red Wagon Events was submitting to Australia's Sweetest Morning Tea I was so excited. You see Amanda pushes boundaries, her talent can be seen in each of the below images. She is a true creative who knows how to mix just the right amount of sweetness. Amanda your Nana would be so proud! ###x

Next up we have Cuppy & Cake at 1pm AEST.. (got my times right now lol sorry I am in Adelaide and we are a bit behind)

In 1999, I lost my beautiful Nana, Ena Brash, to ovarian cancer. From diagnosis to her passing, was a horribly quick 3 weeks. She was only 69 years old. She loved life, her children and her grandchildren. Sadly she never got to meet her great grandchildren but I know they would have loved the Friday shopping trips and long afternoon cups of teas with Boston Bun with Nana just as we did. Not long enough on this earth, not long enough in our lives. We miss her so very much. This E-vent is created in her memory.

In designing this E-vent, Federation Square was used as the main inspiration along with the geometric Kangaroo face. Both strong iconic features of Modern Australia.

A baron concrete warehouse formed the perfect backdrop for our E-vent. Modern, crisp and strong in its nature, it highlighted the modern design of both the dessert table and table setting.

The triangular and geometric panels of the Federation Square complex were replicated through this E-vent in both food design and also through the bold geometric linage of the kangaroo face on the backdrop of the dessert table. The desserts were all kept clean and modern with strong crisp geometric elements let to complement the bold backdrop.
Modern cookie terrarium sculptures were expertly made as favours for each guest. Truly works of art.

The use of concrete pavers and planters accentuated the concrete surrounds and also tied the connection to both modern Australian Social Networking architecture with its clean and strong lines and also modern art.

Oh this submission to Australia's Sweetest Morning Tea is so clever Miss Biscuit!

Gorgeous cookies adorn this shoot with an array of true Melbourne icons on each biscuit....it's just genius! So well done!!! x

Next up we have one of our 2013 Australia's Sweetest Morning Tea contributors Red Wagon Events at 12noon.. AEST

Morning tea in Melbourne is an event inspired by the incredible city that I am fortunate to call home.

The biscuit set was created to reflect Melbourne’s personality by representing a few of the many wonderful different facets of Melbourne life. The styling of the event was inspired by a set of black and white photographs that I have on my living room wall of various scenes of the Inner West of Melbourne.

The event was an attempt to recreate that wall using edible art. I put together a set of biscuits, using only the colours of black, white and grey, to be hung on the wall in a similar way to the photographs. The styling of the event was deliberately minimalist with little to distract from the biscuit set itself.

I owe enormous thanks to Emma Nunan from Haven Lifestyle Photography. I could not have put this event together without her help during the planning process and of course, her incredible images. Also thank you to my very supportive husband and children. Thanks for laughing with me and encouraging me on this crazy, new journey

The prime purpose of ASMT event is to raise money for cancer research. I dedicate my event to my father who lost his battle with blood cancer at the very young age of 54. Please consider donating at the link below
