The Grand Lodge of Freemasons SA & NT The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Every Freemason is a member of a lodge (also known as a ‘blue lodge’ or ‘craft lodge’) which generally meets once a month in a Masonic Hall. There are over 100 lodges in South Australia and the Northern Territory which meet in about 50 Masonic Halls. At these lodge meetings members wear suits and what is called ‘regalia’ – including an apron (with plenty of meaning behind it), while some wear spec

ial collars with jewels attached. The Master of the Lodge presides over the meeting, and some of the members hold other positions of rank – think of the Master as the chairman, with others acting as deputy chairman etc. Each meeting is scripted according to ritual which has been used for hundreds of years, and all those involved know it off by heart.

Are you a masonic myth buster? Can you tell the difference between Freemasonry and fiction? 🤔
We often hear people say that "women can't be Freemasons" - this is a myth!

Women Freemasons have been meeting across the country for more than 100 years. There are two female-only Grand Lodges: The Order of Women Freemasons and The Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons (Freemasonry for Women). They both follow exactly the same ceremonies and wear the same regalia as male Freemasons, and they often work closely with community and charity projects.

FREEMASONRY
What’s it all about?… and, if you already know, is there someone you think should know?

Freemasonry is one of the world’s largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal charitable organisations. Members come from all walks of life and meet as equals whatever their race, religion or socioeconomic position in society.

The first step to becoming a Freemason is to talk to one, “to be one ask one!”

Come along to an informal 90 min session on Sunday 9 February at Freemasons Hall, 146 Avenue Road, Clarence Gardens and hear what Freemasonry is all about, and meet one or two Freemasons who will be there on the day.

Partners and wives are most welcome.
Dress is Smart Casual.

Just email [email protected] or [email protected] for more details and to confirm you are coming along.

Flashback Friday: Grand Lodge of Freemasons

The South Australian Grand Lodge was the first to be established in Australia and was formed before the colony was settled, however it was not until much later that this building was constructed.

The land for the lodge was purchased in 1922 and the construction work occurred between 1925-1927. The architects were John Quinton Bruce and William Haigh Harral, a Freemason, who personally oversaw the work.

Originally the building was intended to be constructed from cut stone and granite, but due to costs reinforced concrete was used.

The building houses offices, meeting rooms, three lodge rooms, kitchens, reception rooms and banqueting rooms, a large hall at the rear (the 'Great Hall'), the Adelaide Masonic Centre Museum and the Masonic Library.

The main entrance is flanked by four columns and above the entrance are the words 'Audi Vide Tace' from the Latin proverb 'Audi, Vide, Tace, si vis vivere in pace' (Hear, see, be silent, if you would live in peace). This was the motto of the Grand Lodge until the 1950s.

Get behind this incredible global movement.

Research shows that the most common way Masons are introduced to the fraternity is through another Mason—often a parent, grandparent, friends, or colleagues.

From now until May 14, we're inviting all members to post a short message, or video, on social media saying why Freemasonry is important to them and to include the hashtag in the caption. Together, we'll let the world know: I'm a Mason!
