The search for the 2027 Australian of the Year starts with you 🫵

We're excited to officially open nominations with a message from our patron, Her Excellency the Governor of South Australia. Behind every great community are the people quietly driving positive change. These awards are our chance to bring those local champions into the spotlight. 🌟

The next Australian of the Year could be someone you admire from afar or a little closer to home - your neighbour, your colleague or a community leader. A nomination takes minutes but it can transform a life - for that person and everyone they serve.

If someone in your world inspires you, we want to hear about them. Nominate here: https://australianoftheyear.org.au/

Inspiring a room of more than 600 South Australians ✨

We're still reflecting on the 2026 Australian of the Year Breakfast featuring Katherine Bennell-Pegg - a celebration of curiosity, courage, leadership and community spirit.

Bringing together ADCSA members, partners, sponsors, business leaders, government representatives and students from across the state, the event shone a spotlight on the people strengthening our communities and inspiring others through their actions.

It was a privilege to hear from our 2026 SA Australian of the Year Award recipients - from leadership and service to moments of innovation and discovery, the morning was a powerful reminder of the difference individuals can make in the lives of others.

Thank you to Southern Launch and the Australian Space Agency for providing an engaging STEM activation - guests experienced a rocket launch simulation and Roo-ver the sketchbot transformed photos into hand-drawn portraits destined for a future mission to the Moon!

We left feeling inspired by the stories shared, hopeful for what’s ahead and proud of the Australia we are part of.

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors and partners for making this event possible. Your support helps us continue to bring together inspiring voices and meaningful conversations:

A glimpse into the 2026 Australian of the Year Breakfast 🪐

What an extraordinary morning honouring curiosity, courage and community impact. This event was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we dare to dream big.

We were privileged to hear from 2026 Australian of the Year and astronaut, Katherine Bennell-Pegg. Katherine’s journey challenged us to think bigger and step boldly into the unknown, reminding us that: “Space is not about escaping the Earth, but helping us to see it more clearly.” ✨ Katherine’s story is proof that being Australian is no barrier to reaching the stars, leaving the entire room inspired to pursue our own highest ambitions.

The inspiration continued as we shone a spotlight on SA’s 2026 Australian of the Year Award recipients – James, Mac, Ayesha and Chloe. Through advocacy, creativity and selfless service, these local leaders are driving meaningful change and opening doors for others across our state.

To everyone who shared the morning with us: thank you. Amplifying the stories of these incredible South Aussies was a true honour, and we left feeling deeply inspired by what is possible when passion meets purpose.

Remembering an extraordinary Australian.

Professor Richard Scolyer AO, joint 2024 Australian of the Year, lived with courage, generosity and a deep commitment to helping others.

Through his pioneering work in melanoma treatment, Richard helped change what was possible for people and families facing an incredibly difficult diagnosis.

When faced with his own cancer journey, he continued to share his experience with openness and bravery, in the hope it may help others.

Our thoughts are with Richard’s wife Katie, his family, friends, colleagues and all those mourning his loss.
