Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison is a trailblazer in women’s health, whose innovative approach to care has changed the lives of more than 40,000 women across Australia.

As an internationally recognised endo-gynaecologist and reconstructive surgeon, Dr Fariba has pioneered minimally invasive surgical techniques designed to reduce pain, scarring and recovery time. She has also founded a state-of-the-art women’s health centre in Adelaide, helping set a new standard for patient-centred care.

Through Desert Flower Australia, she has supported more than 500 women affected by female ge***al mutilation, providing culturally safe healthcare and multilingual support for refugee and migrant women.

Dr Fariba’s work is helping transform women’s health, creating greater access, understanding and better outcomes for women across our communities. 💜

The Gawler Show was named 2026 South Australia’s Community Event of the Year🏆

This event brings people together to celebrate South Australia’s agricultural and creative heritage, with a unique mix of competitions, entertainment and opportunities to connect.

In 2025, more than 25,000 people attended, with 3,800+ competition entries and almost 200 volunteers helping make the Show happen. From the Young Farmers Challenge and Rural Ambassador initiative to the many traditions that bring generations together, the Gawler Show continues to play an important role in the region.

As Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC concludes her tenure as the Governor of South Australia today, we extend our deepest gratitude for her remarkable service to our state and her dedicated support as our Vice-Regal Patron.

Over the past five years, Her Excellency has championed our mission to acknowledge our past, recognise inspirational people and communities, and foster a more inclusive, connected South Australia. In proclaiming our Australian of the Year and Citizen of the Year recipients, she has personally shared in the stories of leaders making a true difference across our state. Her advocacy has consistently placed reconciliation, unity and social cohesion at the heart of her work.

We have been deeply enriched by Her Excellency’s grace, wise counsel, generosity and extraordinary work ethic. Her genuine warmth and interest in our people and purpose have meant the world to us.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Mr Rod Bunten for his steadfast support, warmth and active engagement with our community throughout Her Excellency’s term.

More than 80 young people from 46 local Councils across SA came together for our 2026 Young Citizens Leadership Forum - sharing stories, challenging ideas, building connections and thinking about how they can turn conversation into action.

The forum was a reminder that leadership isn’t something to wait for. Young people are already contributing to their communities, asking important questions and creating change in ways that matter.
