🍜【What is Cart Noodles (車仔麵)?】🇭🇰
Cart Noodles — known in Cantonese as 「車仔麵」— are one of Hong Kong’s most iconic street foods.
The name comes from the wooden food carts (“車仔”) pushed by street vendors around Hong Kong during the 1950s and 60s. Back then, vendors served hot noodles to workers and families in housing estates, construction sites, ferry piers, and busy street corners.
It was affordable, comforting, fast, and filling — true food for the people.
What makes Cart Noodles special is the freedom to mix and match your own bowl:
🍜 noodles
🥣 soup base
🥩 toppings
Classic ingredients like beef brisket, radish, tofu puff, pork intestine, fish balls, and crispy pork skin slowly became part of Hong Kong’s collective food memory.
For many Hong Kong people, Cart Noodles are more than just noodles — they represent:
✨ old Hong Kong street culture
✨ neighborhood memories
✨ late-night comfort food
✨ the spirit of everyday Hong Kong life
