One of the biggest hurdles in arts education within the national curriculum is bridging the gap between theory and practice. While government has taken important strides to include arts education across primary, secondary and tertiary levels, partnerships between academic institutions and arts organisations like Amakhosi Cultural Centre play a critical role in bringing that learning to life.

By hosting school groups such as Maphisa Primary School, who travelled all the way from rural Matabeleland South, we help ensure that learners experience the arts beyond the classroom. Through hands-on engagement, we create opportunities for students to connect what they learn in theory with real creative practice.

Our dance, theatre and visual arts facilitators work closely with learners and teachers to deepen their understanding, build confidence, and spark imagination. This enhances the curriculum in ways that textbooks alone cannot achieve.

Thank you Maphisa Primary School for trusting us with your learners and for making the journey to engage with the arts in such a meaningful way.

The future of a sustainable creative economy lies in early exposure, practical learning, and continuous support of young talent, and we are proud to play our part in strengthening the creative talent pipeline for the future of African creative industries.

Last week we had the honour of hosting the Country Director of the British Council during the SoCreative Showcase held as part of the British Council Creative Economy Week. This is a series of events throughout the country over one week, where various platforms bring together creatives, cultural institutions, and industry leaders to explore how arts and culture can drive economic growth. Through workshops, exhibitions, dialogue, and showcases, it highlights the power of the creative sector to build sustainable careers and strengthen cultural ecosystems.

Last week in Bulawayo, we celebrated the talent and dedication of participants who completed the SoCreative eLearning programme, culminating in a vibrant showcase of ideas, creativity, and collaboration. Special thanks go out to Magitare Trust, who through the British Council, brought our stage to life!
