SEVEN MORE BODIES RETRIEVED AT MUFUMBWE GOLD MINE

Seven more bodies have been retrieved at Kikonge gold mine in Mufumbwe district of northwestern province. Earlier yesterday six bodies were retrieved.

Northwestern province police Chief Brighton Siwale confirmed that his officers were over powered by the illegal gold miners and injured six of his officers.

Few days ago police officers were deployed to maintain peace and order at Kikonge gold site.

SIX DIE AT MUFUMBWE GOLD MINE

Six lives have been lost in a tragic mining accident in Kikonge, Mufumbwe District, after the earth collapsed on gold diggers early today. Mufumbwe District Commissioner Elijah Munyompe confirmed the incidence, adding that more miners are feared trapped as thousands were present at the site when the collapse occurred.

The rescue team, led by the District Joint Investigations Committee (DJOC), is still working at the scene. So far, six bodies have been retrieved—three from Solwezi, one from Lusaka, one from Mufumbwe, and one yet to be identified.

SAKULENGA IS NEW FAZ BOSS IN NORTH-WEST

Brain Sakulenga is the New North Western Province Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Chairperson after defeating Incumbent chairperson Arthur Kamuloso during the Provincial Annual General Meeting (AGM) held yesterday at Solwezi Lodge. Mr Sakulenga got 34 votes while Mr Kamuloso got 23 votes.

Meanwhile, North Western Provincial Minister Robert Lihefu in his speech read on his behalf by Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) Luckson Mulumbi commended FAZ for promoting fair and transparent elections across the country.

FOCUS ON YOUTH DAY 2025

This year's youth day commemoration under the theme " Amplified voices and innovations ignited", we celebrate a renowned radio personality from Kabangabanga radio in Solwezi who is the producer and presenter of a programme called byapatanda. Byapatanda is a Kaonde phrase which means world events. We celebrate Mr Lubenlenga in line with this year's theme of amplifiing voices of the community through radio. The programme comes every Saturday at 20:00 hours on radio Kabangabanga on 97.7 FM and radio garden for those outside Solwezi or North Western Province.

FOCUS ON YOUTH DAY 2025

This year's youth day commemoration under the " voices amplified and innovations ignited" a powerful reminder of the vibrant and transformative potential of our young people. This year we celebrate some youths who have contributed positively to society in line with the theme.

One notable youth who has contributed positively to society and needs to be celebrated is a Football Administrator and founder of Solwezi Academy Football club Emmanuel Manda. He also founded young kansanshi Football club in 2010. His Academy has ignited players like Prince Mumba of power dynamos, comfort selemani of zanaco ladies, Lameck manda of Nkwazi just to mention but a few.

Recently his Academy qualified to the ABSA CUP preliminary round that will be played at Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe from 15-16 March 2025. They will play against Mathkat Football Club from Luapula Province and the winner will play Konkola Blades Football Club from chilabombwe.

FOCUS ON WOMEN'S DAY 2025

This year's women's Day commemoration we celebrate Former North Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) and Current Permanent Secretary (PS) special duties at cabinet office Naomi Tetamashimba.

Ms Tetamashimba is the daughter to the late veteran politician Ben Tetamashimba. As they always say blood is thicker than water, she has been promoting inclusive growth and empowerment for women at grassroots levels and also supporting women's initiatives for many year's which resonates with this year's theme " For All WOMEN AND GIRLS; RIGHTS.EQUALITY. FOCUS ON WOMEN'S DAY 2025

During this year's women's Day commemoration we celebrate former Lumwana Barrick Senior Community Relations officer Winnie Kakunta who worked tirelessly to ensure the livehoods of women in Kalumbila District of North Western Province are improved through tailor made programmes such as "Nsabo yetu" which encouraged women to venture into entrepreneurship and also into Community Savings Groups " Village bank". A lot of women have been empowered through the same programme.

Mrs Mwale a qualified electrical engineer abandoned her career to venture into Agriculture some years back and has proved society wrong that women can also be empowered through Agriculture, fisheries and Livestock, and also that women and girls have the same rights and equality as men in these sectors.

GOVT TO CONSTRUCT NEW AIRPORT IN SOLWEZI

The government of Zambia through the Ministry of Transport and Logistics will construct an International Airport in Solwezi District of North Western Province. This was confirmed by Solwezi Member of Parliament (MP) Stafford Mulusa when he toured Solwezi Airport due to some safety concerns caused by a gully near the runway. Mr mulusa said this challenge further highlights the pressing need for a new, modern Airport to serve the growing demands of solwezi and surrounding region. He said land has been allocated in chief kapijipanga's area and a total of K80 million has been set aside for the project.

He further said the international Airport will not only resolve current infrastructure limitations but also position solwezi as a regional hub, facilitating flights from neighbouring countries and supporting business growth.
