The Wakkerstroom History Weekend Parade is spectacular for many reasons but one simple reason that stands out — IT’S COMPLETELY FREE.

No tickets, no barriers, no VIP sections. Just heritage, music, colour and celebration flowing through the streets for everyone to enjoy.

Expect the thunder of the Transvaal Scottish Pipes and Drums, gleaming vintage cars, horse carts, dancers, flags, fashion and the legendary Stage Coach Holdup — all part of a world‑class parade that costs you nothing to attend.

It’s rare these days to find an event of this scale offered freely to the public. That’s what makes Wakkerstroom’s parade extraordinary: it belongs to the people.

What is a History Weekend without a real-life enactment?

Wakkerstroom, October 1899. The air is tense. Gold is moving through troubled times, and a stagecoach heavy with precious commodities is due to arrive to collect it.

But Ma Baker and her boys are lurking.

In front of the saloon, a brawl breaks out — a distraction? A warning? All eyes are on the fight, but the real danger is the quiet hands reaching for the gold. Will the coach make it out of Wakkerstroom, or will history take a different turn?

You will have to be there to see it unfold...during the FREE PARADE on Saturday 24 October 2026 at the WAKKERSTROOM HISTORY WEEKEND, 23 - 25 October 2026.

Step back in time for a weekend where history comes alive. From parades down Badenhorst Street, to guest speakers at the Bioscope, heritage walks, vintage cars, horse carts, and now — a live stagecoach hold-up enactment right in town.

Don't just read about history. Live it.
