FIRST FRIDAY - 5 JUNE 🌿

This month’s First Friday arrives at a meaningful time for our town.

After the recent winds and damage experienced across Swellendam, many of us have felt the loss of trees, landscapes and spaces that form part of the character and beauty of our community. It’s been a difficult time for many residents and businesses alike.

As 5 June also marks World Environment Day, this month becomes a reminder of both the power and fragility of nature and the importance of community in moments of recovery.

This year’s World Environment Day theme is Biodiversity: celebrating and protecting the natural world that surrounds us and supports us.

So this First Friday, we invite you to come out, support local, reconnect with one another, and continue rebuilding the spirit of our town together. 💚

Come take part in this free event for a leisurely walk through town, slowing down to notice the trees we usually just drive past. We’ll help identify trees and log observations on iNaturalist as part of building a
living record of our local biodiversity.

📍 Meet: 5pm at the Grace + Merci parking
🌿 Intro on using iNaturalist + what photos to take
🚶 5:15pm start walking (we may split into smaller groups if needed)
🍷 6:15pm return for a drink at Swellengrebel or Grace + Merci

No experience needed - just curiosity and a phone.
