SAMRO stands for the Southern African Music Rights Organisation, and they are a collective music rights organization that administers the Performing Rights of music creators and publishers in Southern Africa. Their main function is to license the use of music in various settings, like radio, TV, live performances, and commercial venues, and then to distribute the licensing fees as royalties to their members, who are the songwriters, composers, and publishers
SAMRO administers the music copyright related to Performing Rights and collects licence fees which are then distributed as royalties on your behalf. This means that if someone wants to use your lyrics to perform in public or to play or broadcast it – they need a usage licence.
To register with SAMRO, a South African music rights organization, you need to apply online as a music creator, lyricist, or music publisher. This involves submitting a Member Application form, a Notification of Works form, and a Deed of Assignment form, along with a copy of your ID and payment of a non-refundable application fee
