W H Y S O E X P E N S I V E?
There exists the misconception that floral designers & suppliers charge ludicrously extravagant prices for Valentine's Day flowers...purely "to take advantage of the demand" and "generate a year's worth of profit".
Sure, the 14th of Feb is notoriously known as a commercially successful revenue generating date. But it is also a calendar "highlight" that has most florists riddled with anxiety, stressful logistics, and operational challenges.
Your florist NEEDS to increase prices for Valentine's Day, but they don't WANT to 💔
❤️❤️So why are flowers so expensive during the love season?❤️❤️
🌹 everyone wants roses (especially red) on the 14th of Feb - making demand explode
🌹 often, only reputable, high-end farmers, markets, and import-agents are used as suppliers to ensure quality, longevity, and overall peace of mind - to both florist & client. Sure, it's more costly than a street vendor... but definitely a worthwhile expense
🌹 roses are fragile and need to be transported quickly once harvested - making handling, packaging & shipping more costly
🌹 supply and demand can't keep up - roses take weeks to grow, and farms can not produce more overnight
🌹 Like everything else, things increase during peak seasons. Admin, pickers, air- and road freight, laborers, electricity for coolers... everyone is working overtime, leading to extra costs.
🌹 Ordering fresh cut flowers, at just the right time - preparing, organizing, conditioning, stripping, arranging, wrapping, delivery - all takes extra time and hands
🌹 Life goes on - other celebrations that require flowers continue. Events that need florals are still scheduled, and orders need to be fulfilled. But at the "average day to day" retail price, and not at increased price tags of V-Day.
❤️❤️ Yes, roses are expensive on Valentine's Day, but their classic beauty (symbolizing love) and the message they convey is priceless ❤️ ❤️
