SampleBoard.com Interior design style guides, professional templates & curated shopping — all by style

SampleBoard.com offers an online mood board creator for students of design and creative professionals to quickly and easily output inspiring mood boards and professional visual concepts. Conceptualizing visual ideas are an essential element of the creative process to ensure that client brief and concepts and are on track throughout a project. Traditional sample boards are time-consuming and tedious to create, requiring physical samples and pictures of products to be sourced, collated and compiled into life-size concept boards. These presentation boards have to be presented in person, which incurs time and travel costs, plus they need to be adjusted or re-created following client amends, as well as storage of bulky boards. SampleBoard.com, which launched its site in 2010, digitized the process by providing an eco-friendly, time efficient web-based solution which can be accessed from the comfort of your own creative space. It also has an extensive image library and a design community for users to interact and share visual ideas.

Our second Haus order came with a story.

Susan was moving into a new home and beginning again after losing her husband.

She had two treasured black-and-white photographs he had given her; photographs of places they had loved together.

She asked me which of our throws I thought would work with them.

My first choice was our interconnected protea design.

Black and cream. Organic, but graphic. Enough pattern to bring warmth and texture without taking anything away from the photographs.

Then I told her what the protea represents: resilience, transformation, diversity and courage.

She hadn’t known.

“That’s even better!” she said.

And she chose it.

Sometimes a piece of textile is just a beautiful thing.

And sometimes, somehow, it becomes part of someone’s story.

From Cape Town to Tennessee. 🤍

Someone just bought this. 🖤

And because it’s the very first order for SampleBoardHaus, it feels worth celebrating.

A little idea that started in Cape Town is now making its way to a home in Iowa.

The Black + Cream Tribal Pattern woven blanket — bold, tactile and inspired by African geometry — is officially the first piece to leave the Haus.

There’s something pretty special about creating something and then watching it find its person.

Thank you for being here at the beginning.

And to our very first customer: thank you for trusting us with your home. 🤍

The blanket is still available — shop via the link in bio.

Neo Deco is having a moment — but this isn’t the Art Deco of the past.

Think sculptural curves, geometric forms, richer woods, warm metals and colour with a little more depth. Oxblood, burgundy, rust, espresso, aubergine, inky green and amber are bringing back a sense of glamour without making interiors feel overly formal.

It’s less about recreating the 1920s and more about taking the best parts of Deco — drama, geometry and elegance — and making them feel relevant now.

I’ve pulled together the full trend report, including the colours, materials, finishes and ways to bring Neo Deco into a real home.

Read the full guide → Neo Deco Returns: Full Guide

And I’ve curated the pieces I’m loving right now in my Neo Deco ShopMy edit — sculptural lighting, glass, furniture and those little details that make the look work.

There’s a particular kind of uncertainty that comes after you’ve spent years building a life, a career, a business — and suddenly you’re not quite sure what comes next.

Especially when life doesn’t pause while you figure it out.

There’s mothering.
Relationships.
Aging.
Bills.
Changing ambitions.
Things ending that you thought would last.
And the quiet question of whether the thing you’ve been working towards still matters to you.

I think a lot of us are somewhere in this middle.

Not starting from scratch.
Not exactly moving forward either.

Just taking stock.

These five stories are about the messy, nonlinear reality of building something — the unexpected turns, the people, the failures, the reinventions, the things that had to end — and what happens when the chapter you thought you were writing starts to change.

Because perhaps we don’t need to have the next thing figured out.

Perhaps we’re all just trying to make sense of what we’ve learned, what we’ve outgrown, and what might come next.

Five chapters. Sixteen years. And a lot of questions that I suspect aren’t mine alone.

If you’re somewhere in the messy middle too, come read it. Maybe you’ll recognise a little of your own story in mine.

Five chapters of the SampleBoard story, now on Substack.

Some patterns are meant to be looked at.
Others are meant to be felt.

A study in rhythm, contrast and movement — hand-drawn forms brought into the softness of a woven textile.

Every curve, line and imperfect shape was designed from scratch, then translated into a tactile black-and-warm-ivory weave that feels equally at home as a wall tapestry or a throw.

It’s graphic without feeling harsh.
Organic without being predictable.
And the closer you look, the more you find.

Designed by SampleBoardHaus.
