Their first anniversary began before sunrise in Venice.

While the city was still quiet, this couple walked through the streets and along the water for an anniversary photoshoot — one year after their wedding, celebrated far from home during their Italian trip.

The early light, empty bridges and reflections in the canals gave the morning a very different feeling from the Venice most visitors see later in the day.

In Venice, we often let the city do most of the work.

Early morning light across the water, reflections along the canals, quiet streets around San Marco and those small moments between one location and the next.

They travelled all the way from Puerto Rico to Italy, and Venice became part of the story leading to their wedding.

Rather than a traditional engagement session, we wanted their photos to feel like an afternoon spent together in Venice: walking, talking, stopping by the water, catching the changing light and letting the city do what it does best.

A Venice family photographer sees a very different city at sunrise.

While most visitors are still asleep, this family of four was already walking through the streets around San Marco.

No crowds. No rushing. Just the four of them discovering Venice together — stopping by the canals, crossing bridges and enjoying the city before the summer day began.

For us, this is what family photography in Venice should feel like: part of the trip, not an interruption to it.

Sometimes the best engagement photographs happen between the planned ones.

A bottle of Prosecco was opened during this Venice engagement session — and the celebration quickly turned into a burst of movement, laughter and flying bubbles.

We photographed the entire sequence in a rapid series of frames, creating this little moving moment from still photographs.

That's one of the things we enjoy about engagement photography in Venice: leaving enough room for something unexpected to happen.
