Merlin had a LOT of energy. He would also occasionally notice something fury right next to him that he didn't quite know what to do with. Him chasing his tail - and back legs - is one of my favorite Little Merlin memories

For those of you who believe in connection over space and time and would like to be present in your own way, Merlin’s departure time is scheduled for between 1:30 and 2 today. He is definitely ready, and I am as ready as one can be for such things. Much love

Sitting in the recliner with my boy, getting snuggles and reading all of the beautiful, heartwarming messages and comments here. It is a bittersweet moment. I feel enveloped in love and comforted in the knowledge that Merlin will live on in the hearts and minds of so many people. And yet I am acutely aware that this is our last night together… that by this time tomorrow, all I will have left will be these memories. I’ve cried so much that both my eyes and my head ache, but with everyone’s help, I am staying fully present on this last leg of our journey together.

Side note - Merlin has refused both food and water all day… but when I offered him a taste of my butternut squash soup? Ha lapped up at least 6 spoonfuls. And then he insisted on helping me finish my vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. Seems fitting

"There's not a word yet, for old friends who've just met..."

My magical boy has decided that it's time to say goodbye - at least on his current journey. I am making the arrangements for tomorrow afternoon. I don't anticipate posting anything else until he has made his crossing.

Thank you for all of the love and support you have given us over these past eight years. As much as it has been an honor for me to care for and call this little Wizard my friend, it has been an honor and joy to share him with all of you

As we wind things down here and I spend as much quality time with Merlin as I can manage, I'm probably not going to be much in the mood to talk about his new website. However, I set it up so that the process is 95% automated, and yes, I can manage that last 5% :)

Part of this was a labor of love... a way of reliving all of the amazing memories we've made together, honoring his roll in my life, and celebrating his special brand of magics. Part of it was a way to do the same for his followers, fans, and supporters. And part of it was to help mitigate the end of life and palliative care expenses.

I know Merlin will live on in the hearts and minds of many, and that is a HUGE gift to us both

Yesterday was stressful for normal life reasons (flat tire, ignition coil went out, etc), but Merlin and I had a nice Gotcha Day anniversary.

He is definitely not his old self, but he doesn’t seem to be in any pain or stress. He sleeps a lot and moves slowly. Either or both of those things could be a side effect of the meds he’s on. Or they could be disease progression. Tough to say at this point. All I know is that I am enjoying his company and getting lots and lots of snuggles - way more than before he got sick the first time.

I don’t know how much time we have left, but we are making the most of it ❤

If you want to pick up one of his calendars or his new picture book and have it arrive before Christmas, now’s the time :)

On this day, 8 years ago, as I was driving to pick up my daughter from her babysitting job, a little gray kitten dragged himself into my lap and altered the trajectory of my life. From there, his story has grown and touched the lives of many in ways that are difficult to imagine. I’ve never met another cat quite like him.

Prepping the Wizard Cat Merlin merch site for a soft launch this weekend. Should be some really cool stuff on there. After all, Merlin has been living large with his handsome self for almost 8 years now and I've been right there with a camera the whole time :)

This is a poster that will be available in the shop for sure.

It may not be funny to everyone, but for someone who has spent the afore mentioned 8 years caring for a paraplegic kitty, this sh*t cracks me up :)

This year, I am sad about many things, and thankful about many things.

But my biggest bit of thankful is for having this little Wizard here with me today.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. The story of his recovery and how the community once again came together to help save him is a bright spot in an otherwise somewhat bleak landscape.

I hope that Merlin adds another item to your list of things to be thankful - and hopeful - for this year
