With a heavy heart, Id like to send prayers to the family and friends of beloved actor, musician, and cultural icon Malcolmโ€‘Jamal Warner who has passed away at the age of 54.

According to multiple reports, Malcolm tragically drowned while on vacation with his family in Costa Rica on July 20. He was caught in a powerful current while swimming and, despite rescue efforts, sadly did not survive. His official cause of death has been listed as accidental drowning by asphyxiation.

Many of us grew up watching him shine as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, where he brought warmth, humor, and heart to every scene. Beyond that role, he continued to impact the world through music, poetry, activism, and storytelling. His voice and presence were powerful โ€” not just in entertainment, but in the way he carried himself with quiet strength and grace.

He kept his private life just that โ€” private โ€” but we do know he deeply loved his family. My heart goes out to his wife and daughter, and to everyone grieving this immense loss.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, thank you for the laughs, the lessons, and the legacy. You were a light to so many. Rest peacefully. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ’”

Asia in a Bite fed our souls and our timeline. The squid looked better than it chewed (texture had me confused) but everything gave color, flavor,
and a lil licka ๐Ÿ˜‹ From cane sugar slushies to candied fruit and shots of sake... our taste buds took a trip without leaving Baltimore!

๐Ÿ“New Orleans, Louisiana

To make the most of your New Orleans experience, hereโ€™s a comprehensive bucket list of all things Nola
Must-See
Parades: No Mardi Gras is complete without witnessing the elaborate parades. Be sure to catch the Krewe of Endymion, Krewe of Bacchus, and the Zulu Parade for unforgettable floats and performances. (Unfortunately, the Zulu Parade was canceled for us due to the high winds from the storms.)
French Quarter: Explore the historic French Quarter, where the architecture and music fill the streets with a unique charm.
Jackson Square: Visit this bustling area to admire the stunning St. Louis Cathedral and enjoy street performers and artists.
Bourbon Street: Experience the vibrant nightlife and lively atmosphere of Bourbon Street, known for its bars, music venues, and street parties.
Louis Armstrong Park: Take a stroll through Louis Armstrong Park, where you can enjoy beautiful landscapes, sculptures, and the rich history of jazz music in New Orleans.
Frenchman Street: Discover the vibrant atmosphere of Frenchman Street, known for its live music venues and local art markets, offering an authentic taste of New Orleans culture

Must-Do
Visit Caesars Casino: Try your luck at one of the most famous casinos in the world, offering a wide range of gaming options and entertainment.
Join a Second Line Parade: Dance your way through the streets in this traditional New Orleans parade, where everyone is welcome to join in the fun.
Experience a Street Car Ride: Take a scenic ride on one of the historic streetcars, enjoying the charming views of the city as you travel.
Visit Mardi Gras World: Get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the incredible floats used in the parades.

Must-Eat
King Cake: This sweet, cinnamon-flavored pastry is a Mardi Gras staple. Look for the tiny baby hidden inside for good luck!
Beignets: Visit Cafe du Monde or Loretta's for these delicious, powdered sugar-covered treats.
Gumbo: Experience this hearty soup made with a variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables, all seasoned to perfection. Pretty mich served in every restaurant
Jambalaya: Savor this flavorful rice dish packed with a mix of meats, seafood, and spices.
Alligator: Try this unique delicacy, often fried or grilled, for a true taste of the Bayou. ( my opinion it tasted just like chicken juat chewy)
Charbroiled Oysters: Indulge in these grilled oysters topped with a delicious blend of herbs and cheeses.
Shrimp and Grits: Enjoy this classic Southern dish featuring succulent shrimp served over creamy grits. (I got mine from nice guys Nola with catfish on top)

Must-Drink
Hurricane: This rum-based cocktail is a New Orleans classic. Pat Oโ€™Brienโ€™s is famous for serving the original.
The Jester: A fun and colorful drink that combines various fruity flavors, perfect for enjoying in a lively atmosphere.
Hand Gr***de: Known as the โ€œmost powerful drink in New Orleans,โ€ this cocktail is a must-try for adventurous drinkers.
Margarita Towers: a unique way to enjoy margaritas, served in a tower for sharing, perfect for gatherings and celebrations.

Must-Buy
Masks and Beads: Pick up some colorful masks and strings of beads to fully immerse yourself in the spirit of Mardi Gras.
Local Art and Crafts: Support local artists by purchasing unique pieces from the French Market or local galleries.
Mardi Gras Memorabilia: Take home a souvenir like a commemorative doubloon or a Mardi Gras t-shirt.
Voodoo Dolls: Donโ€™t miss the chance to find some unique voodoo dolls, which make for intriguing keepsakes or gifts.

Voodoo Tour: Explore the mystical world of voodoo and learn about its history and significance in New Orleans.
Frenchman St Bar/Pub Crawl: Experience the vibrant nightlife of Frenchman Street with a fun bar and pub crawl that showcases local brews and live music.
Creole Queen Steamboat Dinner Cruise: Enjoy a unique dining experience aboard the Creole Queen, complete with breathtaking views of the river and live entertainment. (Had my favorite meal here)
Tattoo Bayou: Visit the local tattoo shop Tattoo Bayou for a glimpse into the art of tattooing and its cultural significance in the region.
Louis Armstrong Park: Stroll through Louis Armstrong Park, a beautiful tribute to the legendary musician, featuring lush gardens and vibrant sculptures.
Mardi Gras Experience: Celebrate the lively and colorful Mardi Gras festival, where you can witness extravagant parades, vibrant costumes, and indulge in delicious local cuisine, all while soaking up the festive atmosphere that New Orleans is famous for.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit New Orleans is during the two weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. This period includes Mardi Gras & the most significant parades and festivities. Or honestly anytime between February and May

Number of Days Needed: To fully immerse yourself in the city's culture and experience everything it has to offer, you'll need a minimum of 4 to 5 days.

Tips for the Trip
Plan Ahead: Book accommodations early, as hotels fill up quickly during Mardi Gras season. The city is packed with festivals, so for any excursions or restaurants you want to experience, it is recommended to make reservations or buy tickets in advance.
Dress Comfortably: Since the city is very walkable and most roads are blocked, wear comfortable shoes and clothing for all the walking and dancing you'll be doing during the festivals.
Stay Safe: Keep your valuables close and be mindful of your surroundings, as crowds can be large and lively. Also, be careful and watch the ground and sidewalks for debris, trash, urine, horse f***s, and vomit.
Respect Local Customs: Mardi Gras is a cherished tradition for locals, so be respectful and embrace the cultural experience. Additionally, remember to respect the culture by not touching the altars in voodoo shops, memorial sites, and graves. Always ask for permission before taking pictures or videos of street performers, and make sure to tip them as well.

Enjoy your Nawlins adventure, filled with music, color, and revelry!
