This is the week when I start to feel the New Year energy. Organizing seeds, looking though catalogues, walking the farm to see what needs to be transplanted, digging out old journals, dusting off old plans… Whatever the source of the energy, I’m glad for it. We all need that time to create something new for ourselves.

I’ve posted workshops on the website for the coming season (I’m sure I’ll add in more as I start to know our family’s plans for 2024). I hope you can join us in the studio - it’s always magical and one of the best parts about Fairview Farm & Flowers!

Also, if you want to create your own private workshop, I’m available for dreaming that up too!

When I was little our house burned. It was the first house my parents ever owned. They bought it at an auction and spent countless hours trekking out from the city to fix it up.

My mom has always been an avid gardener, having grown up on a farm in rural Kansas, and the property at the new house was a gardener’s dream - it had barns and overgrown beds - a restoration project that I bet would have led to so many cool discoveries. Sadly, it burned the summer we moved in and she never got to see what treasures might have been languishing for decades.

We spent that year living in hotels, apartments, renting a number of places before we bought the house in Tuxedo Park, NY. The deer there ate pretty much everything. But - along the back porch there was a huge bed of peonies running the length of the house.

We called them Tuxedo Peonies. They were spectacular.

We when moved years later, my mom dug up clumps and planted them at our new house. I resented moving but those peonies blooming each year made me feel connected to my childhood home.

When I bought my first house, we divided those peonies and planted them there. And we when moved again - into the house right next door to my parents - I divided them again and brought them along.

I still call them Tuxedo Peonies… but now I know they’re actually

So many of the flowers I grow have a special meaning to me. How about you? Let me know a flower story below! 👇

Some of the rad varieties on display at the mum show! When I was in college, there, working on the MumShow was a constant in my life. It takes a long time to grow these varieties out every year and keep punching them! I will admit I was sad to see the display is not as magnificent as it used to be, but it is still very much worth going to and I was so happy to be there again!

VERMONT FARMERS: did you loose your tubers from flooding? We have ones that never got in the ground and could still be worth a go - not for flowers this year but to rebuild root stock for folks who lost theirs. If this is you, please DM me and we can ship you some to get into the ground. I think this will work best for folks with a poly tunnel but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s one of my new favorites. Starts off as sweet, pink buds and opens to this remarkable palette of warm sherbet/ apricot tones with a halo of pink. The opened bloom is also very flat, which is unique too. I’m not poetic enough to describe the fragrance… but it’s good.

Who else has a January ritual of ordering seeds, tubers, plants, etc. 🙋‍♀️?

Well, we’re here to ask you to wait till February for !

Last year we tried selling and shipping our organically grown tubers and we learned quite a bit from the process. We’re looking forward to a really great sale this season!

Right now we’re busy inventorying and reviewing the health of the supply. Things are looking good!

We’ll also offer special packages designed specifically for small flower farmers - or the hard core enthusiast! Sign up for our mailing list; you’ll be the first to know about the selections and offerings.

The sale will go live to the public on Feb. 1st but we might offer up a way for our mailing list folks to order early. Either way, being on the mailing list will give you an advantage.
