The PNGPF would like to join PNG in mourning the passing of our nations Founding Father, Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare. We extend our sympathies to his family and join them and PNG in mourning his loss. He was a giant in life and so it is in death too. Your memory will remain with us into perpetuity.

“My lifelong dream for this remarkable country was fulfilled at independence when we started with peace.”

Rest in Love Sana.

Sincerely,

PNGPF.

Hi team 🇵🇬

Due to the Moresby Northwest by-election polling scheduled for the 3rd-17th April we have made the decision to postpone our National Championships to avoid the date conflict.

We will plan a new date and communicate accordingly as soon as the date is agreed.

Hi team PNG Powerlifting

2020 was a very challenging year for us all due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw all of our national and international events cancelled.

On Friday 8th January the PNGPF executive met & discussed an approach to getting the sport back up and running, with the following topics covered & agreed:

Club Affiliations – Going forward, all local clubs/gym entering lifters into PNGPF competition will be required to become a formal affiliate of PNGPF. A process to onboard & manage affiliations is being developed and will be presented when it is available.

Membership fee – For the first time, PNGPF will begin requiring all lifters to pay an annual membership fee, this will go into the federation and be used towards growth & delivery of higher quality competitions, as well as funding future team travel to international competition. A process is being developed to onboard & manage memberships and will be presented when it is available. This fee will be as follows:

• Senior Lifter (e.g. has competed at National or International level previously) – K50
• New Lifter – K20

Calendar of events – A calendar of events is being established, starting with 2021 National Championship – Port Moresby – 10/4/2021.

2021 Nationals – Aforementioned PNGPF National Championship competition on 10th April will be open for entry to all experienced lifters, minimum requirement being a basic understanding of IPF rules and ability to perform Squat, Bench, and Deadlift. Equipment requirement is in line with PNG rules (Shoes, Socks, Lifting Suit are required). Being the first competition for PNGPF in some time, it will be a great opportunity for the executive to identify current & new members with potential for selection for other regional & international competition, as travel restrictions allow.

Funding issues – While PNGPF works through the challenges caused by COVID, and establishes affiliate and membership financial processes, unfortunately lifters will need to self-fund travel/accommodation to attend the 2021 National Championship. We expect that by introducing these processes, we will deliver financial security & growth potential for the federation for years to come.

The PNG Powerlifting Federation and PNG Powerlifting Community would like to remember the former PNG powerlifter Edward Paluka, whose untimely passing was only recently made known to us.

A humble giant whose smile was as big as he was. Our sincere condolences to his immediate family. You will be missed Eddie by all who knew you. Rest in Power 🇵🇬❤️😔
