When it comes to matters of opinion The Baron has long been a pupil of The Old School. (most likely because of Life's matriculation schedule, not the formal 16-year education norm.) The recent Riverfest 2025 debacle concerning bumping a Music Group for their political views has The Baron interested of The Cancel-Culture Phenomenon. Seems people start a social media account and once they reach 200 followers, they do not see their captive audience as anything but an audience, something to be performed to -- which is why your neighbor, who works at Target, talks on Facebook like he is addressing The United Nations. We are not aware of the solipsism of this behavior for we are all guilty of this behavior. It is all literally a performance.
Low Cut Connie should be allowed to perform. It is that simple. They were asked, contracted and then bumped because of a bureaucrat's lack of investigation skills. Then another Band was named and an Internet Hero dredged up some dirt on the replacement band, again investigation skills are sadly lacking.
If The Baron had a choice in the entertainment venue, He'd have gone Local. Don Shappelle and The Pick-Ups are an excellent cover band as well their original music. Many of Don Shappelle's original songs are centered around The Susquehanna River and The Chesapeake Bay. Seem a natural choice to celebrate The River. The Baron has known of Shappelle since his Bourbon fueled nights at McDermots on South Main. The Baron has also sipped Boat Drinks at Abner's Crab House in Annapolis while catching him perform.
Most of us who champion free speech also believe in the idea of etiquette and social contract. We simply do not believe that such parameters should be legally enforced by censorship.
