Proud? Of my job?
When I was 15 I got a job at a water park. I worked there for two summers and then I got a job at a place called The Jungle (like a Chuck E Cheese on a lower budget). When I was in my interview for The Jungle, they asked me to sing “Happy Birthday” and they asked me what animal I would be if I was in the Jungle (duh, monkey!). When we answered the phone we had to say “Going Bananas at The Jungle, this is Ben!” I was a birthday party hostess (it was all girls plus me and they just called me a hostess too and I loved it).
When it was time to leave The Jungle I said, “I think that for the rest of my life, I want to work somewhere where people go to have fun.” As if to say that “fun” was one of my core values at 16 years old.
All along I was in student government, planning school dances, helping build homecoming floats, planning spirit days, etc.
When I am running my photo booth, I feel like I am living that mission of fun. And as an adult, I understand the true meaning and value of what “fun” is.
Fun is not a pointless endeavor.
Joy is not a worthless goal.
Connection is one of the most powerful forces in the world.
Laughter is one of the best ways to keep us moving forward.
It sounds silly to say, but that is what my photo booth does. That is my goal, intention, mission, when I set up my photo booth.
I hope that is what people feel when they step into my booth.
So yeah, I’m proud.
