At the Canadian Grip Sport Championships this past weekend Sebastian Pacey-Smith did something that no one has done before in competition. He did a double bodyweight deadlift on Andrew’s Axle. Double bodyweight is an impressive achievement with a regular 2” axle — to do it with a 2 3/8” axle is incredible! He weighed in at 73.5 kg and lifted a bit over 147! And the thing is, he still had a bit left in the tank: he simply ran out of attempts! Well done, Sebastian!

Later this month I’ll be attending GripCon, a new conference dedicated to all things grip. I’ll be talking about the history of grip contests in Canada and will be setting up a number of grip challenges for people to try. The best part is that GripCon is FREE for all attendees. It all goes down at Bloc 9.81, a climbing gym in Gatineau, Quebec, on July 27 between 10am and 3pm.
