Tip of the Day: How to make gerberas last...

Choose flowers with at least two rows of pollen showing on the center disk (immature flowers are more likely to wilt). Cut the soft stems with a sharp knife (don’t use clippers or scissors), to avoid damaging them. If you are re-cutting stems that were shipped dry, use a citric acid hydration solution to make sure the stems fill up with water. To hydrate them, hang gerberas through wire mesh, so that their stem ends do not touch the bottom of buckets; this prevents damage to the stem ends and encourages the stems to stay straight as they harden off.
