Anyone remember ? It was a low-key animated movie from 2010, which, today I learned, spawned a whopping *seven sequels*. For years I've sought out animated films outside the Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks/Blue Sky Industrial Complex, so take my word for it when I say this was a patience-tester:

The biggest problem with "Alpha and Omega" is twofold: it's not that funny and it's not that interesting.

Finally sitting down to watch made me miss Trevor Moore and all over again. Him and Cregger had such a special blend of comic timing and the ability to execute subtle parodies of popular male archetypes. This is better than its reputation suggests. My review:

Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore bring the same kind of spirited comic sensibility to "Miss March" as they do "The Whitest Kids U' Know."

Tabatha Zimiga and her family is the star of the new drama , which shows their close-knit lives as horse trainers on their large ranch. I caught up with Tabatha about her experience making the film and the uniqueness of it. It was a terrific, authentic conversation. Take a listen!

is a wet, mucky splatterfest that has the benefit of being a guinea pig for Eli Roth's new distribution process for gruesome horror flicks of this ilk. Sign me up. My review:

"Jimmy and Stiggs" at least shines as a guinea pig for Eli Roth's inventive and involved distribution system for indie horror flicks.

revolves around real-life mother-and-daughter Tabatha and Porshia Zimiga in a work of docufiction that shows their lives as horse trainers in South Dakota. It's impressionistic, rugged, and beautifully filmed. My review:

Kate Beecroft's debut dares to show the beauty and pain inherent to the life of horse trainers and those who try to make it in the American West.

I was blown away by the new faux-documentary . I got really lucky to chat with the film's lead actor, Peter Zizzo, a big part of the reason why the film is so convincing as a work of true crime and horror. Zizzo actually worked in the music industry, helping launch the careers of Avril Lavigne, Vanessa Carlton, and more. We had a nice, lengthy chat about his career!

Last weekend, Catherine and I made the pilgrimage to Madison County, IA where we saw the famous six covered bridges. You might not assume these bridges are much to see, but they are truly beautiful relics that reflect their own history of travelers. We were smitten!

A look at the beautiful covered bridges in Madison County, IA.

Stuart Ortiz's is the best horror mockumentary since . In true crime fashion, it tells the story of a serial killer, whose slayings over a 16-year period are diabolical and disturbing. Loved this one. Catch it on the big screen if you can. My review:

Believable as a work of true crime as it tells an engrossing serial killer story, "Strange Harvest" is the best horror mockumentary since "The Poughkeepsie Tapes."

I had one of the scariest and most memorable theater experiences with (2003). Funnily enough, I still have never seen the end of that film. I tell that story in my review of :

Performances from Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan aren't as frequent as they once were, which makes "Freakier Friday" feel like an even bigger disappointment.
