The words I love to use during the Ring Ceremony are, “The rings you are exchanging today are not just pieces of jewelry or something nice to wear with your outfit.
Your rings are an external symbol of the internal love you have for one another. These rings represent the commitment you are making to one another and should always be worn to let others know that you belong to somebody else.”

I have a love-hate relationship with social media. While I enjoy the connections, I can’t stand the competition and comparison it creates. Imposter syndrome hits me too—it happens to all of us. But I’ve learned happiness comes from staying true to yourself and focusing on what’s best for you, not for likes or followers. I love it when couples add a personal element to their ceremony. The Unity Cross Ceremony was the perfect touch to Michelle and James’ day.

James’ piece of the Unity Cross is the outward piece that represents the man's strength, leadership, and protection. Michelle’s piece represents the beauty and the many capabilities of the woman, representing the two becoming one. To complete the cross, I placed three pegs to hold it together. These pegs represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, showing God's place in this covenant and the security and completeness that only our Heavenly Father can give.

February 13th marks Black Love Day, a powerful celebration founded in 1993 by Ayo Handy-Kendi as a spiritual and cultural alternative to Valentine’s Day. This day is dedicated to honoring, healing, and strengthening love within the Black community.

During the period between 1619 and 1866, Black marriages were not legally recognized in the United States. This denial of legal authority disrupted Black unions and left a lasting impact on how Black relationships are perceived today. Black Love Day serves as a poignant reminder of this history while celebrating the rich traditions, customs, and values that make the Black love experience so unique.

The theme of Black Love Day encourages healing racial divides and fostering unity through the power of Black love. It’s a time to focus on ending violence within and beyond the Black community, promoting peace, and demonstrating solidarity across the Black diaspora. Let this day inspire us to uplift and cherish the beauty of Black love in all its forms.
