Right then people, we are hosting a DJ competition for our event in Green Works on the 26th July!

Rules are pretty simple. No polls, just record a half hour mix, upload it to soundcloud with the title ‘Big Bristol Bass Off Promo Mix’ and send us the link on one of our socials!

We will have a listen and choose our favourite to play at the event, as well as getting free entry for themselves and 2 mates.

Competition closes on the 30th June and the winner will be announced on the 4th July.

All underground genres considered; DNB, Trance, Techno, Tek, Bassline etc. no mainstream/commercial genres please.

Let’s explain why… a little sound engineering lesson won’t go a miss 📖

Believe it or not, clubs employ highly skilled sound techs for a reason. This is to protect the sound system and ensure your music is played at the best quality, the way the producer intended it to be.

When you whack the master up past the green lights, all you end up doing is clipping the sound. There are limiters set up by sound techs to avoid too much power going through the speakers and causing costly damage to their beloved systems. Essentially, louder on the mixer = less sound quality.

We don’t know about you, but that’s not the kind of energy we want in 2024…

Allow us to break it down:

🟢 - the golden zone, music being played is as close to the original quality as possible.

🟠 - amber zone, you’ve gone beyond the loudest point, any extra volume is in the form of distortion.

🔴 - the no go zone, you’ve entered sound distortion territory, stay away!

We take immense pride in the soundsystem in our venue and making sure the sound quality is absolutely perfect (in case it’s not obvious) 🫣

Like most good sound engineers, we spend hours behind the scenes making sure that it’s loud enough in every corner of the room, and we don’t mean this lightly…if you’ve ever been to our venue then you know as soon as you step in, you get swept off your feet by loudness AND quality, and we intend to keep it this way.

Protect the sound systems, keep the sound engineers happy & protect the quality of the music. Oh, and wear earplugs ✌🏼
