Do you have a favorite dahlia?
I’ll be honest, I’ve never liked choosing favorites. I don’t have a favorite color or even a go-to ice cream flavor. What I’m drawn to depends on my mood, the season, and a dozen other little things. There’s beauty in all of it, and I’ve never been good at picking just one.

I’ve been growing dahlias for over a decade, and in that time, I’ve tried a lot of varieties. I’ve loved most of them for different reasons. But as wedding styles evolve and dahlia trends shift, many eventually rotate out of my garden and field.
Still, there’s a short list of dahlias I’ll always grow. Some are tried-and-true workhorses, both reliable in the field and excellent in the vase.

But my number one? That one’s sentimental.
My youngest son’s name is Evan, and back in the winter of 2020, I came across a video of the most stunning dahlia I had ever seen. I was immediately enraptured. Then I learned its name: Evanah. And that was it. I HAD to grow it!

No matter what’s trending or what new varieties catch my eye, Evanah will always have a place here. I look forward to seeing her each season. She’s like an old friend showing up each Summer after a long time away. And every year, I’m just as excited to see her bloom as I was the first time we met. 💖🥰💐

For Derek and Erin’s day, we played up the soft, romantic textures of their wedding style. Layered white and ivory blooms, a hint of wild movement, and candles lining the aisle for a romantic glow.
The floral arch framed their ceremony perfectly, and afterward, we repurposed every piece so it could keep softening the space and atmosphere through the rest of the celebration.

Today I’m sharing one of the prettiest dahlias in my entire collection, the utterly breathtaking Lee’s Sugaree! 😍It’s petals are soft pastel hues of peach and pink, kissed with a golden glow. The magical variety looks like a sunset captured in bloom.I’ve been a huge fan of the incredible for years, and this variety holds a special place in my heart. It’s not just stunning in arrangements—this tall plant practically steals the show in the garden, too!
