It’s so great to be able to share the journey of a young band, navigating and watching how they get inspired by watching great bands.

First time in a proper too!

So lovely see Dave Green share the stage with his father playing guitar. Having just lost my Dad, witnessing beautiful moments like this bring home the message of - so so important!

Girls Can returns at More Music on Saturday 20 September (2pm-10pm) and Sunday 21 September (10am-3pm), FREE and open to young women and non-binary people aged 12-19 years olds!

Bryony Jarman-Pinto, Jazz FM vocalist of the year nominee, will be part of the Girls Can team this time supporting the participants as they create music together. She will then invite them behind the scenes as she soundchecks and prepares to take the stage for her Saturday evening gig at More Music (participants will get free entry to the gig)

The weekend will have a focus on freeform songwriting, inspired by the approach that Bryony takes with writing her own music. We’ll explore a range of ways of creating new songs and how to add harmonies and backing vocals.

For more information and to book your free place, visit https://moremusic.org.uk/whats-on/girls-can/. Booking in advance is essential.

Girls Can supports those who are not typically represented in the music industry. It’s an opportunity to form bands, develop as artists, network, build skills in sound, lighting and studio engineering as well as developing confidence and music industry knowledge.

When someone you love dies, and you are an only child, dealing with everything becomes consuming, you are in a constant fog, trying to push things away down deep to stop feeling, to deal with what has happened, to try and get through each day. It’s overwhelming, emotional, painful. It’s difficult to contemplate having fun.

Tonight I was made to go out, to watch Production of ‘Rock of Ages’ and what a show!!

With everything going on, I hadn’t realised dates were this week. Anyway, all I can say is team Cre8iv, thanks for bringing so much joy to my chaos.

School of Rock was off the scale, but this from the adult cast was just brilliant. It was so good to see everyone performing, the live band, the dancing, lighting, - not knowing the show before hand or musical numbers just hearing so many of the songs I grew up with - you know those huge classic rock numbers from the late 80’s and 90’s brought back so many happy memories and moments in life.

The show is on until Saturday night. Get your inner rock chick dressed up and go rock out! Few Tickets available https://www.cre8ivlittletheatre.co.uk/events/rock-of-ages-the-musical/

This was just what I needed to feel alive tonight, to enjoy some time away focusing on death, because we all have to carry on regardless. The world keeps turning no matter what is going on in someone’s life.

Sometimes you just need to be in the moment to breathe. This moment was rock music, always my happy place!

Thank you Claire Higgins Amy Leppert-Williams Zoltán Tar Cassie Mochan Maurice Tabener Mallone Chris Higgins Evie Hill Cate McNeal Cheryl D-l Paul, Rowan, Bo, Izzy, Caitlin, Taylor, and the whole cast. This show really helped me tonight ###x

I will be eternally grateful for so much support from friends, family, local food banks, who helped save my beautiful daughter and I from going under during the most horrific time in life where the fight to keep going daily fighting creditors, bankruptcy, legal threats, homelessness, bullying, abuse, pushed me to nearly take my life.

This is for you Dad and I will never forget the hurt, pain and trauma put on you as you too were nearly made homeless in your 80’s through no fault if your own and the sacrifices you had to make just for us all to have a roof over our heads.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who saved us and thank you to for the support, belief, and encouragement to make people aware of how any of us are one minute away from life changing actions that bring your world crashing down.

No matter where you are on your journey, and to those out there struggling, no matter how dark it gets, please find the tiny bit of light to keep going and hold on to HOPE that a miracle will happen to keep you alive and safe.

Find those that lift you up, have your back, wrap their arms round you and help push you forward.

To all the amazing finalists GOOD LUCK 🫶

As parents of young musicians, the adults are excited, but imagine being in a band when you are 14, 15, 16 and getting to perform at the incredible ‼️

The band formed at a workshop two years ago celebrating where they wrote their first song over a weekend.

Within a few months they supported with a three song - two

With their focus on writing their own music they have joined in the girls can workshops over the last 12 months, as well as music lessons and fantastic tutoring in .

Four original songs were recorded in October 2024, and engineered and mastered by Kurt ready for release in 2025.

Dead Sheep’s first release on 11 February 2025 ‘Mansplaining’ has everyone tapping their feet but was written for International Women’s Day as a way to celebrate female voices and to rebel against the patriarchy.

The concept of the song was first conceived at More Music in Morecambe, Lancashire during their “Girls Can” weekend, which is dedicated to championing women to create a more equal music industry.

In the lyrics of the song, there are lots of phrases used by men to patronise women that have been turned on their heads to be uplifting and empowering instead. The upbeat melody represents female gender stereotypes, whilst the defiant lyrics illustrate the depth of feelings surrounding equality.

The overall message of Mansplaining is to inspire women and girls to stand up for what they believe in and make sure their voices are heard.

Check out the band when you visit and before then give them a follow .band download their new song - as adults looking in we are in awe at what this band are creating and writing, as well as creating a movement to show others that you can get up on stage, with your friends, be seen, be heard and as from Loose Articles said ‘there is nothing better than enjoying a J20 with your mates!’

What a night!

A planned with 20 of us meeting up to watch - a night we couldn’t miss because all of us in our group are huge and given that 18 out of our group of 20 are musicians, we all knew what a special night it would be, getting the adults and children together.

The popularity of this wonderful theatre is growing, with a huge variety of entertainment on offer. Having a live band there tonight shows the versatility of this wonderful which brings the plays, and more to the local community. Now with live music tours coming to the venue, if you are local you really need to buy a ticket and come and enjoy a night of being entertained.

Absolution tonight were just brilliant. Watched by a front row of young talented musicians - 2 drummers, 2 keyboard players, 3 guitarists, 4 singers, age 10-16 who are also in bands, it was a fabulous night where the younger ones could enjoy and experience live music without being asked to leave by 9pm - many small venues have issues with Licencing for anyone under 16 so if you try and watch live music, and your children also want to watch bands, they often miss the main sets because of the 9pm curfew.

All the parents are incredibly proud watching the younger ones loving the night out, enjoying quality musicianship, and sometimes tapping air drumming or air guitaring along knowing the

We all had a great night out, and more importantly were able to support our and show our children that they can have careers in bands, and get to play shows like this.

If you are a band on the circuit looking for the perfect venue to perform in, with great ticketing system, lighting design, audio production, decent size auditorium, check this out!

There are people in your life who really know you well. They know the little things that make you smile.

What is your go to mantra?

One of mine is

Two years ago, I was encouraged to start singing. I have always loved singing, but in the car, in the house, in the shower, the places where no one could see me.

I have always had respect for performers; the effort, skill, confidence, fitness needed to get up on stage and sing, dance or act through a show is admirable and not everyone can do it.

I was one of those - I went backstage to work because I couldn’t be on stage. But I loved every aspect of the and that was the way to be a part of it.

Roll on two years, and through the right people, encouraging me, at the right time, in the right environment I have stepped out my , battled and looking at the last two years have performed at in 2023 and 2024, performed in Beyond Broadway locally, and joined a mums and we have now gigged live about 6 times.

I have rediscovered my after years of trauma, started to smile again, love life, love being around and and for those out there struggling with just wanted to say and you too can find this .

will be a part of your journey, but finding the right people who get you, support you and encourage you is paramount to getting through the dark days.

helps so many people. Honestly I cannot believe how far I have come in two years when the last 7 years has been a battle to get through a day.

Wherever you are in your recovery, keep going, battle through, find the thing that helps you smile, start small, little moments, each day, listen to your body, your mind, and take it
