After a short delay (see our last post!), we’ll be contacting all applicants of The Good Trade Makers Market by the end of the day Wednesday, June 18th.
Curating The Good Trade is, without a doubt, the hardest thing we do each year, and the quality of this year’s applicants made it even tougher. We received over 1,200 applications for just 180 spots across both cities, which means we’re able to accept less than 10% of the inspiring businesses who applied.
While we’re beyond excited to welcome so many amazing makers to this year’s events, it's also difficult knowing that we’ll be disappointing so many perfectly worthy businesses.
For us, the curation process is all about creating balance:
🖤 Welcoming new faces alongside TGT veterans. This year, we’re especially excited to introduce lots of new-to-us businesses, including many trying a new city for the first time.
🖤 Ensuring a wide range of price points, styles, and trades. For example, we could have filled each event twice over with the number of jewelry artists who applied. To avoid oversaturation, we limit the number of vendors per category and aim for variety in style and price so that every shopper can find something special.
🖤 Supporting both local and traveling vendors. We launched The Good Trade to help makers grow by connecting with new audiences. That’s why we aim for a 50/50 split between in-state and out-of-state businesses, to foster community, promote discovery, and make space for growth across state lines.
With this many incredible businesses, there truly are no perfect answers. We spend weeks trying to make the best decisions we can, knowing full well that we may disappoint close friends, longtime veterans, and new businesses we’re genuinely excited about but couldn’t fit in.
Wednesday will be a bittersweet day.
To everyone joining us this year: we can’t wait to work with you! And to those we weren’t able to include: please know how much we loved learning about you. We’re rooting for you, and our decision is in no way a reflection of your worth or talent, it’s simply a matter of space.
We appreciate your understanding and support, and we hope to see you all soon.
