A little over a decade ago, marriage equality had just become federal law. Back then, q***r wedding vendors were rare, and inclusive/affirming practices were nonexistent.

The “standard” everywhere was still cis, straight, bride + groom, etc. (and still is), but fast forward to over a decade, and now there are:
* Queer-led wedding businesses
* Publications centered on LGBTQ+ love
* Vendors proudly calling themselves affirming
* Gender-neutral language becoming more and more common
* Couples building weddings that actually reflect them

Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it’s much, but it’s a lot more than before.

The wedding industry is far from perfect, but it would be dishonest not to acknowledge how much has changed, in such a short amount of time, and it’s all thanks to q***r couples because they haven’t just been planning weddings, they’ve been expanding what the wedding industry can look like, even if they don’t completely realize it themselves.

So just think, if this is how much change q***r weddings have been able to create in the wedding industry in just over 10 years, then imagine just how much change the next 10+ have the potential to create if q***r couples continue to celebrate their unions & plan them on their own terms!

Every trans person Milo at knows has had this moment. You look through your photos and you brace. You brace for the disconnect between how you felt and how you ended up being seen. What should have been joyful becomes something you don't even want to approach.

That's one of the issues with 'LGBTQ+ friendly' being a phrase that's kinda everywhere - especially in June. It's on every website and in every other IG bio and it doesn't tell you a single thing about whether you'll spend your wedding day quietly correcting someone's assumptions. Whether the posing will fit who you are, and your relationship dynamics. Whether you'll get your gallery back and brace, just a little, before you open it.

Milo (they/he) of built their entire wedding business around that gap. Not to fill a niche, but because they lived it themselves and decided it wasn't good enough. As a trans and q***r person planning their own wedding, they wanted to feel excited. Instead they felt uncomfortably detached. And they didn't want that for anyone else.

'No one should feel fear or dread surrounding any aspect of their wedding day.'

Milo agrees with us, the experience for lovers starts from the very first email. It's when pronouns aren't an afterthought. Posing direction doesn't assign roles based on how someone looks. And the language throughout every planning call, every moment on the day, is intentional.

So here is what happened...Madeleine (she/her) bought a ring. Elysse (she/her) also bought a ring, plus organised an entire Central Park proposal complete with a photographer.

Neither of them told the other any of this.

They went to New York, walked into The Strand bookstore after a 6am flight, and Madeleine just asked. Right there in the architecture section. All one rushed nervous word. Elysse was confused, then laughing, then reaching into her own bag.

Two rings. Zero coordination. One very cancelled Central Park plan.

They got married in that same bookstore, in the Rare Book Room upstairs, surrounded by their families. They now live just outside Nashville with two lovable dogs, one slightly evil but devilishly handsome cat.

A songwriter who still owes her wife a song, and a veterinarian who would like everyone to calm down about doodle allergies ❤️

While Kanon (she/her) was away for a week, Olivia (she/her) was quietly building an art gallery. Six framed collages, one for each year of their relationship, assembled from six years of saved letters and notes, destined for a stretch of beach in Rockaway with flowers, champagne, and a playlist she had made for exactly this moment 🥰⁠

When Kanon got back, Olivia handed her a packing list, an itinerary for a weekend away, and absolutely no indication of what was coming. After a night out, brunch, and a spa day, Olivia slipped away to 'check the weather' ⁠
⁠..she was really meeting her sister and photographer to get everything in place.⁠
⁠
Then she went back up, collected Kanon, and walked her down to the beach. ⁠
⁠
"Must be some kind of art gallery," she said. ⁠
"Should we check it out?" ⁠
⁠
They walked the frames together as Olivia narrated their story out loud, Elvira capturing everything as it unfolded, and her sister holding a JBL blasting the playlist in the background. ⁠

At the last frame, Olivia ran to grab her purse (she was wearing a skirt with no pockets, which she would like you to know is the patriarchy's fault), came back with the ring, and got down on one knee. ⁠

She had been recovering from a back and nerve injury and had spent physical therapy sessions practicing a perfect 90-degree bend for this exact purpose.⁠

When .weddingbonnefee planned her own le***an wedding, the lack of inclusivity she encountered didn't discourage her ... it redirected her entirely.

She became a wedding planner for q***r couples, and when the idea for this styled edit came to her mid-Bridgerton-binge, she asked a question that shaped every single decision that followed: what if, in that world, LGBTQIA+ love was simply accepted without question? What if homophobia didn't exist at all? 🌈

That question became The Ladies' Season 👆 A Regency-inspired celebration shot at in France, a venue with lakes, horses, and sweeping green landscape that feels lifted straight from the English countryside.

The color palette, pink and orange, mirrors the final Bridgerton ball. It also happens to be two of the three colors of the le***an flag. Justine says that wasn't planned. It felt like the shoot was confirming its own direction.

Every detail was chosen with that same intentionality.

Fabrics chosen for the way they drape, like the grand curtains at a Regency ball. Flowers mixed with fruits from and . A pink quill, vintage tea cups, dance cards with crayons, butterflies, and glasses of lemonade as direct nods to the Bridgerton world.

And at the center of it all, a real couple, because Justine was firm on that point ❤️
leo said yes.

They're artists, authors, and advocates who have been building a life together since they met at art school in Paris at 20, took an impulsive hitchhiking trip to Croatia that first summer, and have lived all over France together since.

Lou wore a gown by , Leo suited up in .paris, with hair by and makeup by , captured by and .photography, with video by and a photobooth by .your.stories.

And, one month after this shoot wrapped, they got married - so congraulations in order!!

One 'yes', two proposals, and two very different ideas of the perfect moment 🌈⁠

Nicole (she/her) chose The Lipstick Lounge, one of 36 remaining le***an bars in the US, an hour before it opened for the night. She told Anna (she/her) their friend was filming a music video and needed extras. Instead, it was an empty bar, Zach Bryan playing over the speakers, and a carnelian heart engraved with the words her late father used to propose to her mom ... 'What are you doing for the next 50 years?' ⁠

Anna knew Nicole wanted something private. So she planned a hike along the Harpeth River, a proposal at an overlook, and then quietly booked Bourbon Steak, Nicole's dream restaurant, without saying a word. Nicole thought they were going somewhere else entirely. ⁠

She didn't cry at the proposal. But, walking into that restaurant hand in hand? That's when it hit ❤️⁠

These two met on Bumble, parted ways, and found each other again four months later for what Anna calls their 'second first date'. They talked for hours. That was it.⁠

Something is happening in wedding photography right now, and the industry is mostly talking around it instead of about it.

AI is probably already in your photographer's workflow. It might have culled the gallery. It could have corrected the color. It can smooth your skin, get rid of 'distractions' in an image...lots of things.

For a lot of photographers, it's given them their lives back. Faster delivery, fewer late nights, more time actually being present on the day.

And most couples? They got their photos faster. And, they loved them.

So here's the actual question: does it matter?

Not whether AI is good or bad. Not whether photographers who use it are 'cheating'. But whether the thing you care about, which is the photograph of the moments, is any less real because of how it got to you.

We've been inside the wedding industry for nearly a decade. Recently, we've seen a lot of opinions on this.

What we haven't seen enough of is an honest conversation between the people who make these photos and the people who keep them forever.

So we're opening the floor.

Photographers: how are you actually using AI in your work right now? Where does it help, and where do you not want it anywhere near your process?

Lovers: does knowing change anything? Are you asking about it when you meet photographers, or looking in your contracts for anyting about it. Would you want your photographer to tell you upfront?

A mid-1800s Greek Revival farmhouse on the southern Maine coast. Two lounges with gas fireplaces, eleven rooms and suites, a wine bar, gourmet breakfasts, and an expansive lawn with English-style gardens less than half a mile from the Kennebunkport waterfront and a mile from the Atlantic.

was built for people who want something a little different. The owner's answer to the most adventurous thing she's ever done: marrying my incredible wife and raising two amazing kids.
