FSRUs offer advantages of lower cost, quicker deployment, and greater flexibility compared to onshore terminals. Onshore terminals take several years to construct, while FSRU-based terminals can be operational within months to a couple of years.

Summit Asia Pacific at FSRU Asia Summit 2023 announced their plans to develop a second floating LNG import terminal in Moheshkhali, Bangladesh by early 2026. This project aims to increase the country's LNG import capacity by 4 mtpa and address the declining domestic gas output and rising demand.

Summit Power, Bangladesh's largest independent power producer, has received preliminary approval to construct a second Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Moheshkhali, Cox's Bazar. This expansion aims to bridge the growing gap between domestic gas supply and demand, which is projected to reach 2.4 billion cubic feet per day by 2025 due to declining gas production.
