Wetherby Town Mayor Dawn Payne gave thanks to the Christmas Lights Team at the Civic Service on Sunday 6th April - Team organiser Steve Kay passed on the towns gratitude to volunteers at our ‘Wrap Up’ party at the Black Bull on Wednesday.

It's really hard to summarise the enquiries that Wetherby Town Council gets and a lot of things happen behind the scenes that no-one ever sees or hears.

Sometimes though, one phone call can lead to something great and that's how today's filming came about.

We answered the phone, we talked to the location manager about what they were looking for and then we helped.

We put them in touch with Wetherby & District Business Association and the Wetherby Christmas Lights Team. Then we worked out how they could use Wetherby Town Hall. We met with the creatives team, we put them in touch with local businesses and we facilitated wherever we could. Our fabulous Facilities Officer even spent her weekend sourcing a couple of sofas for a couple of special bottoms to sit on today and that's certainly not in her job description!

Why? Because that's what we do! We recognised that this was a great opportunity for the town.

A great opportunity to Welcome people to Wetherby.

We are pleased to report, as are 'Wetherby in Bloom' that the decision of the Town Councils Properties Committee was reversed last night following a five strong council representation that brought the subject back to the table.
The final vote to repair the current timber structure, ensures that in the future years, if concerns of stability are raised again there will have been time for a public consultation to take place on the replacement. It would be then decided whether it be a direct timber frame copy or perhaps steel or other material, was voted on.
The vote was unanimously in favour (to retain) from the 12 councillors , no abstentions, no rejections.
We are pleased that the town council recognise its value to the town as a welcome centre piece in the Bridgefoot area.
It’s used to mount the Christmas lighting and as a frame for Hanging baskets as well as a shady spot to sit and enjoy eating your Fish & Chips!

A decision being made Tuesday evening 11th Feb to take down the Pergola at Bridgefoot.
A repair solution is being proposed however.
For Christmas Lights and hanging baskets it forms a welcome introduction to the town. Built by volunteers - it should stay

All the attention at one stage this morning went to everyones favourite Touchwood. As displayers of ‘5 Trees’ they’re o so Christmassy when it matters in Wetherby.
