Hi everyone, we’ve been paying close attention to the weather and decided to start the event a little earlier from 11am-3pm, with the possibility of it extending to 4:30pm if the weather permits. Looks like there’s going to be some rain rolling in later in the afternoon and starting a bit earlier gives everyone more time to enjoy the event.Apologies for the last minute update, but we really hope to see you all tomorrow. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella just in case 🙂

This year I was a part of the the 2024 Latina Leadership Initiative of Greater Des Moines cohort.

Our next spotlight graduate is Guadalupe Lopez.

Guadalupe Lopez is a Commercial Real Estate Transaction Administrator at Principal Asset Management. Simultaneously, she is the founder of Lupe's Flowers. Guadalupe is an alumna of Des Moines Area Community College, the University of Northern Iowa, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in real estate development at Iowa State University, further expanding her knowledge and skills. Guadalupe's commitment to her community is evident through her involvement in various organizations. She serves on the CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) membership committee, the Latina Business Excellence Summit outreach committee, the UNI@DMACC Advocacy Council, and the Principal Hispanic Latino Employee Resource Group Steering committee. These roles allow Guadalupe to promote diversity and inclusion, values that are dear to her heart. In her free time, Guadalupe finds joy in spending quality time with her loved ones, friends, and family. This work-life balance allows her to recharge and maintain a holistic approach to her multifaceted career and personal life.

It was an honor to be interviewed for the first time by Samantha Mesa 💕Thank you.

With a master’s degree from Columbia University, Mesa began a career in televised news. She covered the migrants on the border during Trump’s presidency.

Many Latin American countries celebrate Mother's Day on the same day it is celebrated in the United States and Puerto Rico, the second Sunday in May: Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Belize, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Honduras.

However, other countries' traditional dates to celebrate Mother's Day are other days.

May 10: Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

May 15: Paraguay

May 27: Bolivia

May 30 Nicaragua

First Sunday of May: Spain

Last Sunday of May: Dominican Republic and Haiti

Not all Latin American countries celebrate Mother's Day in May.

August 15: Costa Rica

Third Sunday in October: Argentina

December 8: Panama
