Well we DONE IT!

What a great weekend we had in the capital .
8.1 miles done 😊

The London Bridge Walk challenge is to raise money for Kidney Research UK .This is a very personally fundraising journey for the whole family.

I have places where it hurts that I never thought it would hurt 😆 , Blisters the size of balloons on the soles of my feet .Not bad considering I wasn't able to get as much training in as I was hoping .

Got back 02.00 this morning after a long journey back National Express

Myself , Bracken Kerr and her partner Mack started at 11.00 am and went over the finishing line at Vauxhall Park at 15.30 . 2 pit stops for refreshments. (Couldn't resist all pint or two 😆) And didnt even know Bracken was pinching my hat 😆 😜 🤣 😂

Well done to all 700 volunteers who walked along side this very worthy cause.

We couldn't resist the Doing the Doug Walk over the finishing line 😆 😄 😀 😂 to recieve our medals. (Staff must of thought what the hell are they doing 😆 🤣 😂)

So far we have raised £345 lets see if we can get it to £400 🙏 🤲

As most of you know our kidney disease journey the past year has been a bit tough on the family . Back in February when we got told by the renal department at Derriford Dougs transplanted kidney was failing. The doctors had to start thinking about possible treatments to take the kidney function back up ASAP. Afew things were tried but nothing was successful so the last treatment they could try was ATG.The ATG took its toll on him and he is still struggling to this day . Doug normally walks beside us but he physically can't due to his health issues .

I have joined our daughter Bracken and her partner Mack on the walk so I won't be by myself on this adventure. Normally our daughter Heather also would have been walking with us but back in September 2024 she also got diagnosed with FND Functional Neurology Disorder so as you can imagine we have had a really rough year .

Horizons Plymouth Launches Youth Regatta as Part of the Eddystone Pursuit ⛵

Horizons Plymouth is proud to be taking part in the prestigious Eddystone Pursuit 2025, by launching an exciting new Youth Regatta, giving our young participants the opportunity to join one of the South West’s most iconic sailing events.

For the very first time, young people from Horizons will take to the water in their fleet of Hawk 20 keelboats, sailing a specially designated course within Plymouth Sound.

This adapted inshore route ensures all participants remain within the safe operating area, while still setting sail alongside the many larger yachts that take part in the main pursuit.

It will be a unique and inspiring experience, offering young sailors the thrill of participation, teamwork, and the shared spirit of adventure that defines the Eddystone Pursuit.

Chief Instructor for Horizons Plymouth, Harvey Thompson shared his excitement for the event, “The Eddystone Pursuit is such an iconic race and we’re really looking forward to having some of our keen young sailors take part, and experience what sail racing feels like.”

At Horizons, they believe every child deserves the chance to experience the freedom, confidence and joy that sailing brings, regardless of background. Many of the children involved face disadvantage, disability, or barriers to participation, and events like this are instrumental in building their self-belief and social skills.

Equally, the Eddystone Pursuit plays a vital role in helping us raise essential funds to continue their work. Every Hawk boat taking part in the Youth Regatta will be fundraising as part of the wider challenge, supporting Horizons to provide free sailing experiences, mentoring, and positive development opportunities for young people across Plymouth and surrounding areas.

They are incredibly grateful to the Eddystone Pursuit organisers for their support and vision in helping us shape a youth-focused component of the event, and hope this will be the start of a new annual tradition that celebrates community, raises vital funds, and champions young talent on the water.

We have been busy raising awareness during May and June as volunteer Community Ambassadors with Kidney Research UK
On May 10th Annemarie Kerr attended with family members with an awareness stall at Callington May fest in Cornwall.
It was great to see runners at Plymouth 10k representing 😄
Thanks to the support of Plymouth Waterfront Partnership who enabled us to have an awareness stand at the Plymouth Pirate Festival over two days 17th & 18th May a busy 2 days with an audience of 50k.
Annemarie was once again on the road (Thanks for the Transport Callum Kerr ) An awareness stand for 2 days at the Saltash Regatta & Waterside festival on June 7th & 8th.
Yesterday Wednesday 11th June we had an awareness table at Cafe Connect at the Barn St Budeaux talking and handing out leaflets to the locals. On Thursday June 26th I will be looking forward to volunteering with Well Connected talking to medical students at University about my 10 year journey with Chronic Kidney Disease.
Finally on July 6th we will be looking forward to attending London Bridge walk for Kidney Reasearch 💜

If your wondering where we have been the passed couple of days. We were invited to the 2 day Kidney Research UK Conference in Nottingham. What an amazing time . We learnt so much more about Kidney Disease as well as emotional life stories . Doug struggled afare bit 😳 as most of you know we have been going through our own emotional life story at the stage of kidney rejection. Our life changes so suddenly we can't keep up . But this was time to reflect . Lets ensure that ALL kidney patients and their families have better understanding on how to preserve the health of their CKD , as well as well-being of transplant recipients and ensure everyone on dialysis have quality care and life. We need to find that CURE for Kidney Disease NOW .There is still along way to go to help everyone understand what it feels like to be a kidney patient , whatever stage your at in your kidney journey . But I feel confident that Kidney Research UK will support us all .
I really wanted to visit Nottingham castle 🏰 so after an 8 hour journey from Plymouth to Nottingham on the Coach . Checked into the Crown Plazer then took the slowest walk you could imagine to the castle. I definitely need to visit again one day to complete the whole tour but wow how amazing was this . Doug was unable to look around as it was just far to much walking so he sat in the castle cafe until closing time lol 😆.
Overall apart from Doug being so tied and sick most of the time we had an amazing time making memories.

These struggles are real and they most definitely effect our mental health and well-being. Days like these help us to reflect on what we have been through and what's to come very soon.It helps us to help other families taking the same journey.
