Followed by Rob Burton (Saxophone) & Mark Rogers (Piano).

British Saxophonist Rob Burton won the Woodwind Category Final of BBC Young Musician 2018 and went on to secure a place in the Grand Final at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, where he performed as concerto soloist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Rob is also a gifted oil painter, having studied at the Barcelona Academy of Art, exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and appeared on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year.

Ben Holland is well known to Music in the Burnhams audiences and on this occasion, he is going to perform with an acclaimed organist rather than his quartet or with a piano. We are delighted that Simon Leach who has had a glittering career since first training at Royal Northern College of Music will be giving this recital with Ben. Simon is now the organist at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh.

As well as playing together they will be play separately, so be prepared to hear wonderful Bach and Widor resounding through Westgate church along with music by Handel and Lloyd Weber.

Church organs are notoriously expensive to maintain. Even small chamber organs have pipes, wind systems, consoles, actions, and bellows. They are therefore very expensive to maintain.

In the Burnham Benefice there are five organs, four of which are small chamber organs consisting of a small keyboard and around 5 or 6 stops. St Mary's Westgate is more sophisticated as it has lots of stops and two keyboards. We are therefore very pleased that it is this organ on which Simon Leach will give his recital at the church on Saturday July 6th at 3pm.

Simon has played at several important churches with huge organs including Notre Dame in Paris and Liverpool's Metropolitan cathedral so we shall feel very privileged that he will play the Westgate organ next week and show it at its best. There will certainly be organ fireworks and the church will burst with the glorious sound and we shall have the added bonus of Ben Holland is playing too at this recital. They will play on their own but also as a duo.

Tickets are £20, Under 18s FREE and chocolate strawberries and shortbread with bubbly is the traditional fayre at our afternoon recitals. Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Do come!

Hailed as an “African classical music pioneer” (BBC World Service) and “a classical music game changer” (Classical Music), London-based award-winning pianist Rebeca Omordia is an exciting virtuoso with a wide-ranging career as soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and artistic director.

Leon Bosch conducts chamber and symphonic ensembles around the world and is one of the few double bass players to direct concertos from the instrument.

Having worked with the finest conductors for 30 years as a member of groups such as the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Philharmonia and Hallé, he learnt the repertoire and conductor’s craft from inside the orchestra, and finally made the transition to the podium in 2015, when he left Academy of St Martin in the Fields and went to study in St Petersburg with Alexander Polishchuk. Since then he has conducted orchestras across the UK, Europe, India, South Africa and Mozambique.
