• Back in 2015–2016, when Vinahouse Mainstream producers were relentlessly pounding out heavy bass and drums like hammering 20mm bricks into a state treasury safe at an aerobic tempo of 140–143 BPM, there was this one artist named Sâu—oops, I mean Jun. This guy, slow and unassuming, laid down soft, mellow bass and drums—what people called “Bass Gầm” (Rumbling Bass)—that made your ears feel like they were cozily resting next to a fat sow’s butt about to meet the butcher, all at a sluggish 128 BPM. His music went against everything his peers were doing—like running backward in a full-speed race. That stubborn slowness got him shunned because it “lulled to sleep” the dancefloor athletes who wanted to jump on speakers and go wild.
• Funny enough, today—after ten years of hammering bricks into treasury safes—there’s now a whole wave of Gen Z and other listeners living slow with Houselak, Vietdeep, and soothing love songs with gentle melodies, nicknamed “Shower Music” or “Deepsea” or “Lỗi Tại Mưa” to cure ringing ears.
• In the end, everyone gets tired from sprinting and needs to slow down, stroll around, and enjoy life a little more.
• And so, the pack of fierce racehorses has a few turning back to trot alongside Jun—playful and mischievous as ever. 😂
