Happy Juneteenth!

Did you know that the end of slavery in the United States depended on where you lived?

Although President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation took effect in January 1863, many enslaved people in Texas did not learn of their freedom until more than two years later.

On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were finally free.

That day became known as Juneteenth—a celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress.
Today, Juneteenth honors Black culture, history, and achievements.

As a federal holiday, it’s often marked by community gatherings, backyard barbecues, concerts, picnics, and other celebrations that bring people together.

Coding the Future: What AI Means for the African Child

Rooted in our theme, Future Ready: & , this conversation will center the voices that matter most—young people.

Together, we will explore how is shaping the lives, opportunities, dreams, and futures of today.

This is not a discussion about predicting some distant future.

It is about listening to the young people who are already living it.

Is the African child prepared for a world that has already embraced AI?

To answer that question, we will hear from remarkable young people from vastly different backgrounds: a homeschooled learner, a youth born and raised in a rural community, a young person from the informal settlements of Nairobi, and another from an upper-middle-class family. Their journeys may be different, but they meet at one powerful intersection—technology, innovation, and .

We will talk about:

1️⃣How AI is impacting education, creativity, and opportunity

2️⃣What it means to stay rooted in identity and culture while embracing innovation

3️⃣The possibilities—and challenges—that lie ahead for African children

4️⃣And ultimately ask: Where do we go from here?

Own Your Story!

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is the freedom to be who you truly are.

When we stop comparing, stop pretending, and start embracing the person we were created to be we are much happier.

Being true to yourself isn't always easy.

It requires courage, honesty, and a willingness to trust your own journey.

It means honoring your values, listening to your heart, and making choices that reflect the life you genuinely want to live.

Happiness is also a choice we make every day. It doesn't mean life is perfect or that challenges disappear.

It means choosing gratitude over bitterness, possibility over fear, and hope over discouragement.

Our circumstances may not always be within our control, but our attitude and response always are.

At some point, we also have to take responsibility for our lives.

We can't change the past, but we can decide what we do next. We can own our decisions, learn from our mistakes, and take intentional steps toward the future we want to create.

Your story is uniquely yours.
Every setback, every lesson, every victory has shaped who you are today.

Don't be afraid to own that story.

The chapters that challenged you often become the ones that teach, inspire, and strengthen others.
