Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Center Unveils
Newly Renovated Innovation Center in Holden Heights

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — Youth Empowerment Project, Inc. (YEP) will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially open their newly acquired and renovated Innovation Center in the heart of the community, Holden Heights. The Innovation Center will afford YEP with the means to expose students to career opportunities, equip students with information and empower youth and young adults to succeed through professional development, career exploration, digital media and videography training as well as offering paid internships that creates career stability and advances entrepreneurship opportunities.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the office located at 927 South Goldwyn Ave., Suite 226, Orlando, FL 32805. This event will highlight the organization’s advances from its founding and encapsulating the direction for the future. This event will feature speakers and refreshments.

“Opening this Innovation Center facility provides an opportunity for youth and young adults to explore their own creativity and genius. It also provides a safe-haven and an alternative to crime and violence in our communities. Many times the voice of the young people are stifled and their values are questioned. We are a place where their voice can be heard and a center that will bring out their inner values,” stated Nathan Shaw, Jr., YEP President.

YEP has held events and activities centered around professional development, training, mentoring and teen summits. They also collaborate with organizations to offer creative avenues for youth to access and gain knowledge about publications, media, apparel, video engineering, graphic design, website development and a youth driven clothing line.

Their mission is to help youth and young adults identify, activate and walk in their purpose. To date, YEP has conducted a career exploration event where 50 students learned about video game design, participated in a week long youth entrepreneurship camp where various students were able to learn different business plans and concepts, offered 14 paid internships and helped students develop six pieces for a clothing line.

It was a long week but Commissioner Victoria Siplin had a great event, Dr. Wendi Wordlaw's Missions Benefit Concert tonight with 10 time Stellar Award Winner and of course my 100 Black Men of Orlando who are giving away $100,000 in scholarships and $1.2 million to date. HOLIDAY GREETING CARDS RULES

Look at holiday cards as a marketing investment.
When year-end budgets are tight, holiday cards can seem like a waste of time and money. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. People want to do business with people that value them and make them feel important during the holidays and throughout the year. The act of sending greeting cards at this time of year is meant to be selfless and show appreciation, but it is what it is -- marketing. There is nothing shameful in demonstrating your company's appreciation while simultaneously and rightfully identifying this effort as an opportunity to make an impression and drum up more business. Include something in your card that prompts a call to action.

For example:
• Offer a discount for a future order by including a coupon or printing an offer on the back of the greeting card.
• Include a business card that will not be discarded at the end of the season.
• Set up a landing page on your website and instruct recipients to visit the page for a special holiday message and offer (make sure it is worthy of sharing).
• Ask and offer a reward for any referrals.

Use snail mail if possible.
A tight budget can preclude mass mailings of holiday cards to clients. But if you can afford it, go the paper route. Email greetings are not as effective. They can be deleted by mistake or can wind up in the spam filter.
Apply a personal touch.
In addition to signing your note, thank the recipient for something specific or otherwise personalize your best wishes. This takes just a few extra seconds, but makes the card worth the price of postage.

Send them soon.
Holiday cards should be received before the end of the year. Ideally, they should go in the mail stream by the second week of December. Many companies close down for part of the holiday, and you want to make sure your cards are received before vacations begin.

I need your help. I accepted the challenge to Sleep Out with Homeless with Covenant House. It will be uncomfortable. It will be dark. But for one night I can give up the comforts of home knowing that – by doing so - I can bring warmth and hope to young people who need it most. We are trying to raise money to help homeless especially homeless children in Central Florida. Please make a donation. See below to see what donation can provide as well as the link to donate.

$50.00: Provide a week of nutritious meals for a homeless young person
$100.00: Provide a homeless young person with one night of care in a crisis shelter
$250.00: Fuel an outreach van for one week and help us bring hundreds of youth to safety
$500.00: Provide for the rescue of four homeless youth from the streets
$1,000.00: Furnish a room to create a comfortable and safe space for our kids to sleep
