Just a reminder for florists out there working to grow their business:

Improving your floral portfolio and sharing your work regularly is probably the most powerful way to attract more clients and grow your business.

“I think…I might…want to own my own floral business someday…” I said for the first time to a coworker. I felt so embarrassed saying this because I didn’t feel qualified and I thought other people would think the same thing.

I imagined telling my family and friends about my idea and getting a lot of skeptical questions that I’d have no answers to. I had no idea how to get started. I had no money saved. I had no business plan. I didn’t even know what I NEEDED to know, so I was unsure of what information I should seek out. I sat on this idea for WAY too long.

If you feel this way and you’re waiting for that magical moment where suddenly you know everything and have everything you think you need to get started…that day is NOT coming!

I finally started my business out of sheer desperation to leave my job and I figured it out. By taking action, I gained clarity…and so can you. But I definitely wish I could have felt that confidence BEFORE I was at the end of my rope and incredibly unhappy.

Now, since building .co to a thriving 6-figure business, I’ve created Flowering Minds to share how I did it. A simple starting point and a place you can continue to grow. Within this community you’ll find design classes that give you a basic overview, as well as a deeper look into design theory, color theory and more. As your business grows you’ll find more specific business growth strategies and actions you can take to go next level.

Soooo, WHY am I giving it all way and not holding these techniques and strategies close to my chest?

Because starting my business and growing it has made me a BETTER PERSON. I’m more at peace, I’m fulfilled, and I’m a better support to those around me. I just imagine if I can help others find this inner strength and fulfillment that they too will pass on that positive support to the people around them. By each of us thriving, in turn we are gradually empowering our communities as well. We can change the world.

Are you letting people see YOU in your floral design business?

From the looks of it, Flowering Minds member had a branding/content shoot for her new floral design business. Now it’s so much easier to connect and remember her business because she’s showing her face!

What’s holding you back? People don’t need you to be perfect…in fact, it’s better than you aren’t perfect. They just want to like you and relate to you on some level. Once they get a chance to like you, they start trusting you, and THEN they give you their business.

P.S. how about this minimalist design by Flowering Minds member ?! The simplicity, but complex movement and beautiful lighting really caught my eye. 🤩

Back to the foundations!

I’ve been on a kick of revisiting past classes and books that have helped me on my floristry and business journey. It’s incredible what you can learn from classes you’ve already watched. Once you consume content and apply it, you have an entirely new perspective.

With you’re newly developed perspective you digest the same material in a completely different way!

Within Flowering Minds I share exactly how I design centerpieces- how I choose color palettes, how I decide where to place each flower, how to create movement and balance with texture and more! If you’ve watched these classes before I recommend you revisit them so you can pick up tips you missed last time.

Recently I’ve had over 20 people book 1:1 coaching calls🔥and it’s been really interesting to see a similar theme throughout florists’ businesses…

Folks forget to keep their website portfolio updated!!!!!

I think we get so caught up in the social media vacuum that we don’t realize how powerful our websites are and they don’t get the credit they deserve.

When I provide a 1:1 coaching session I review the florist’s website before we meet so I can spot where clients may be losing interest, unable to find the inquiry page, unable to understand the services, etc. More often than not, the florist’s website portfolio feels underwhelming and outdated compared to their Instagram feed.

Your website is your only online platform that isn’t under someone else’s control. Social media is a great tool, but don’t neglect to update, improve and build upon your website, as this is the only online space you’re sure to have for the long haul!

The Flowering Minds class library now exceeds 120 classes! Whether you’ve been with us for awhile or just joined, I want to make sure you aren’t missing out on all the resources in there! Let’s take a look at what classes I recommend, depending on where you are in your journey:

🌷You are booking work, but you want to step it up: Clarifying Your Brand, Template for Introducing Yourself, Event Process, Expanding Your Reach, Styled Shoots Series, and Mindset series

You have some experience, but don’t yet have a strong portfolio: Watch all design classes + the Portfolio series, Mindset series

You are completely new to floristry: The Mindset series + New to Floristry series ♥️

And no matter what stage you’re at- don’t just WATCH these classes. You must get your hands on flowers on a regular basis. Progress can feel slow if you’re pressuring yourself to be a master by tomorrow, but if you let yourself get immersed in the enjoyment of experimenting and creating, you WILL improve and your design eye will evolve.

Who can relate to this?🙋‍♀️🌷

When Brian said to me, “What’s the worst that could happen?” that’s all I needed to hear to jump off that cliff and start .co .

I was terrified I’d fail. At first I spent more time thinking about how to recover from my impending failure, rather than how to run my business successfully! 😆 I laid in bed at night with a pit in my stomach about the financially free falling I had put myself into. I tried to see my success plan far into the future and I just couldn’t.

But I did it anyway and looking back I see that was all just a process of doing something uncomfortable and totally foreign to me. Those feelings weren’t an omen- they were just my body and mind processing the unknown. If you feel this way, you aren’t alone!

It's WAY too common for florists to do EVERYTHING alone and it makes this job a total 's**t show.' Sorry, there's no better way to put it. :)

If you have a hard time letting others into your business, you can always start with the non-revenue generating tasks that must get done! These activities rarely have anything to do with your zone of genius and don't play a major roll in the revenue your business brings in.

You may be thinking, "But I can't pay people with the amount of money my business is bringing in!"
The not-so-magical part of having help is have more time! You can focus on YOUR zone of genius. You can bring more ideas to life. You can build more relationships in the industry. You can take on more work. When you have the time and space to think outside the box and to take action on new ideas you bring in MORE MONEY.
