First State Youth

First State Youth Housing for youth aging out of foster care.

To put youth first in the First State by equipping them with the education, resources, and empowerment needed to break cycles, build futures, and lead change in their communities.

Yesterday was a breaking point. 💔✊

While the world keeps moving, our community is reeling from another shootout that put the lives of our children and youth in direct at-risk. This isn’t just a statistic; these are our babies, our neighbors, and our future.

We are standing here today with actual witnesses of this violence—people who live this reality every single day. We are standing in front of a known hotspot, a location notorious for being a breeding ground for drug activity and a store that has spent years selling to***co and va**ng products to underage children. 📉🚭

Let’s be clear: We are not attacking small businesses. We are demanding accountability. When a business prioritizes profit over the safety of our minors and allows its doorstep to become a magnet for violence, it is no longer a community asset—it is a community threat.

Everybody knows what is happening here. For too long, the activity at this corner has been an "open secret." But after yesterday, silence is no longer an option. If our local systems won't step up to protect the 19802, we will take our voices to the federal level. 🛡️🏛️

At First State Youth, we are fighting for a neighborhood where a child can walk to a store for a snack without facing a shootout. Our youth deserve to grow up in an environment that pours into them, not one that poisons them.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. 🛑

"At First State Youth, we believe it takes a village to raise a child—and that village is stronger when we work together.

Today, I want to pay homage to our incredible sister organization, FLOW (Falling Love Ones Wings) Inc. We are so grateful for their partnership and for the way they edify the Wilmington community. When the families we serve through our youth programs are facing food insecurity, FLOW is always there to catch them.

Thank you for allowing us to partner with you and for providing a dignified, consistent food pantry that helps our community heal and grow. We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you! New Castle County Jefferson Award winner www.flowinc.org 🕊️🤝

To our First State Youth family: We see you. We love you. 💖

Valentine’s Day is about love, and at FSY, love looks like action. I wanted to take a moment today to let every youth and family we serve know that you are truly loved—not just today, but every day.

I also want you to know that I am behind the scenes right now, working harder than ever to secure the funding we need to grow. Whether it’s more kits, better resources, or just a more visible presence on the street, I won’t stop fighting until your needs are met.

You aren't just a "case number" to us; you’re the heart of this city. Happy Valentine’s Day! Stay strong, stay safe, and remember: First State Youth has your back. 🏹✨
