I stole this Saturday rant from Jamai Barnes, an entrepreneur/friend in Dallas...IYKYK!!
Please excuse me for my Saturday small business vent....
When you reach out to me for services, please come prepared. Be ready to provide what I need and to pay your invoice within three days of completion, unless we’ve agreed on a different arrangement BEFOREHAND.
You don’t go to the grocery store, check out, and tell them you’ll pay when you get your check next week. That’s not how business works—and the same respect should be shown to small business owners like me. I believe in showing up for people with grace, professionalism, and heart but please don’t take that for granted.
I keep my rates fair—intentionally offering a fraction of what others charge for the same service. I work extremely hard to provide for my family juggling a corporate job, running my business full time, and maintaining other multiple streams of income to ensure we’re taken care of.
But I am often expected to be available 24/7- answering calls, emails and text, solving problems, sending over documents, etc going above and beyond only to be met with a can I pay you later?
Now let me be clear most of my clients are amazing and you know who you are. I am
super grateful for your support, professionalism, and consistency. This message is not about you—it’s about addressing a growing pattern that needs attention.
And I take accountability too! I’m always open to improving how I run my businesses—better boundaries, clearer communication, stronger systems.
To my fellow entrepreneurs and small business owners feel free to share your own practices and ideas with me. I welcome collaboration, wisdom, and growth.
Just Please Take Care of Your Small Business Owners!
