I just can’t figure out why these flowers survive August. I barely have any energy left for gardening at this point! The blackberry vines have won the award for best grower. How the heck did the thistles make a comeback, and can we please just skip the next heatwave? In other news, my arms are really buff from pulling hoses!

The flower that started my journey into this little business, Tranquility Lane Flowers, way back in 1990, is the rambling rose Dorthy Perkins! She was here when I moved into our property. She must be an easy Rose to grow, you can find her growing on almost all the old homesteads around here. I started cutting it and making new plants to surround my gardens. I figured it would keep the deer out. I would hang it to dry in big bunches and sold it like crazy! What a labor of love, all those thorns! But I was hooked, a love for flowers had lasted all this time. I find myself today, picking Dorthy Perkins for a memorial for a dear friend, and I find myself staring right into the face of that young girl I was way back then.

Wildflower Meadow, our new offering on our website for early summer, evokes memories of childhood & wandering through pastures. Arranged with Poppies, Yarrow, Peppermint, Veronica, Scabiosa, Snapdragons, Nigella & various grasses for a vase full of texture and movement. Growing wildflowers and garden flowers help protect our pollinators by providing forage as well.
