Culture is where community is! We were thrilled to be sharing an evening about Indian culture with a really smart and curious troop of local Girl Scouts! ๐ง๐ปโ๏ธ๐ง๐ผ๐๐ง๐ฝโ๏ธ๐ง๐๐๐ฎ๐ณ๐บ๐ธ
We began our evening talking about India and its diversity with languages, music, dance forms, food, and clothing.
๐ถ Our food segment included the girls taking a spice tour smelling various common indian spices and getting oriented to the Indian masala box. Some girls got to grind a little spice of their own!
๐ฅป The clothing culture segment was interactive with explaining the significance of the sari (a commonly worn garment of India), sari draping, and touch and feel of garment; explaining the significance of bindis and ofcourse a fun tryout of various bindis that each girl excitedly put on. A small surprise for the girls to take home was a set of jingly bangles โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Our Girl Scout leader brought fun henna tattoos for the girls to try on and it completed this segment perfectly.
๐ฅ We introduced the concept of rangoli and its significance in many Indian homes and festivals. The girls got to color and take home rangoli coasters and get creative. ๐จโ๏ธโ๏ธ๐ซ
๐ซ Our impromptu food segment included a fun demo of roti making in the and everyone got to enjoy a delish ghee roti. ๐
๐ We cannot talk about India and not talk about its beautiful temples, religions, and spirituality. We ended the evening with a tour of the Hindu Temple of Dayton and a lot of fun storytelling.
The girls had a great time and the smiles said it all!
