Hi everyone! Val here with some exciting news…
The Gilmour Memorial Library/Kittitas Public Library officially reopened last weekend in its new home at the Catalyst building at 117 N. Main Street in Kittitas.
This library has been a labor of love for my family for decades. My step-mom Marylou had spent two years working as a librarian for free when city funds were tight, and my dad handled the remodels and maintenance for years. Since the Gilmour family has lived here since 1879, I went to the city council in 2014 and proposed naming it after our family to honor everything they gave to it.
When the original building was finally torn down, we had to find a new spot fast. With the help of local grants, community friends, and the Ellensburg chamber, we took over an old hardware store, cleaned and painted it, and brought the library back to life.
It’s officially open, and our town has its gathering space back. Stop by and check it out sometime!
